Rumor or Fact: MGS4 Heading to 360 in 2009?

Snake with AK

Gaming news journalist Freeze over at XboxFamily.com vehemently reports that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be heading to the Xbox 360 platform sometime in 2009. His source? An undisclosed Konami representative via a meeting of sorts. According to Freeze, he wrestled info from the rep stating “Metal Gear Solid [4] will be released for the Xbox 360 between 12 to 14 months after the PS3 version hits shelves.” Freeze stands by his claim that “This is not a rumor.”

Not satisfied with that alone, Freeze attempted to get an MS PR team member to assist him in backing up the Konami reps’ claim. Of course, Freeze received the obligatory “no comment” response from Microsoft.

Whether to chalk this up as a rumor or not, I’ll leave up to you to decide. It is my personal opinion that reports from undisclosed sources, regardless of the reputation of the reporter or site reporting it, are rumors until proven otherwise.

And I’m sure the fanboys will have their fun with this as well. As far as rumors go, this is certainly a plausible one. I would easily place more faith in information passed down from an undisclosed source from Konami than any Sony representative claiming “MGS4 is PS3 exclusive.” (If you will recall, MGS2 was claimed “PS2 exclusive” prior to release.)

Then again, one could easily argue that the whole “wow” factor of MGS4 will probably die down a year after release. 2009 is a long way off. Snake will be sucking down margaritas on some undisclosed beach in 2009. Enjoy your (hopefully permanent) retirement, Snake.

And Konami, milk that fat cash cow for all it’s worth.

If MGS4 did go to the 360 after a year I would then buy a 360. I have no consoles and I am a PC gamer but I had an Xbox and loved it. To be able to play halo 3 and MGS4 … that would be great.

As exclusivity is fast going the way of the dodo, this would not shock me. However, I doubt that a release 12-14 months after the PS3 release makes much difference. Can you actually sell a title (profitably) that’s been out for a year already? I don’t know.

It really has no impact whatsoever on the “console war” though. Exclusive games aren’t the brass ring that they were in previous console iterations. So many quality games are available for multiple consoles these days that a console choice should be based on the totality of the available games, and not just the exclusive titles.

I wouldn’t care anyhow. Even if it were released, I’d have no inclination to buy it. 2 ruined what 1 set-up for me, so personally, I hope those buying 4 will like it, I just won’t be one of them; 360 or not.

Unlike Joelteon7 I might actually wait until the game is finished and released before I decide whether its any good or not

I’m not saying it will be bad, but I’m saying if they’re continuing with the precedent set in 2, it won’t be the type of game I want to play. Considering I own a 360, I think it’s a fair statement to make, though I knew you were going to take my statement to battle. If you’d allow me to reiterate, personally, I don’t like the look of it. It might be a great game; many consider World of Warcraft to be amazing; I was bored to death of it. Doesn’t make it any less of a good game.

How are they possibly going to fit 50 GB onto a dvd when a DVD which xbox 360′s use only holds upto 4.7GB (single sided) and 8.54GB (single sided double layer) and then blu-ray that the ps3 uses holds upto 25GB (single Sided) and 50GB (Duel Layer) which MGS4 uses

The only reason MGS4 is exclusive is because sony pays them alot of money and Konami would how ever make a multiplatform if they think it will get them more money and I have both 360 and ps3 and MGS4 is nothing big just a hyped up exclusive that died down after a week so not many peaple liked it sinse multiplayer on the game encouraged camping and hiding its somthing I would rather rent not buy. I personally liked the 1st and 2nd game but after that the story just got hokey so thats my thought by the way if peaple that own a ps3 want to know what the game is like just watcg the cut scenes on youtube there is only 5 hours of actual gameplay were there is about 7 hours of cutscenes. So as im saying NOT A BIG DEAL.

1 LAST THING if the 360 cant handle MGS4 how can it hold gears of war 2 when it looks just as good and better at some parts of the graphics like textures and shadowing just saying.
