Rumor: PS3 Firmware v2.40 Coming in June with in-Game XMB

ps32.jpg

Today’s very juicy rumor of the day, even if it isn’t entirely new, is that a big firmware update is coming next month and will include the very long-awaited in-game XMB support we’ve all been clamoring for since day one.

In addition to in-game XMB, the firmware v2.40 update would also include Trophy support and the ability to play custom music while playing games. Snarky Xbox 360 fanboys will no doubt point out that all of this is basically catch up with the 360, but these additions would be warmly welcomed by the PS3 community.

The news comes from videogaming247, which claims it got the news “on good authority,” although it remains unconfirmed by Sony. We’ll have more as it develops.

Why is it snarky to make a statement of fact? If (or more likely when) Microsoft releases a Blu-ray drive for the 360, will is be “snarky [PS3] fanboys” who will point out that it’s basically catching up with the PS3? This type of ‘journalism’ really doesn’t help anyone.

Yes, it absolutely will be “snarky PS3 fanboys” who go wild if Microsoft releases a Blu-ray drive. And I use the word snarky because you know as well as I do that when the 360 fanboys get on this story, they won’t be talking about this purely in terms of facts. It’ll be a “HAHA WOW WELCOME TO 4 YEARS AGO SONY LOSERS” deal.

Interesting, but not surprising I kind of knew something like this was going to come out sooner or later. Now all they need is better support for the ipod and not the 360′s support when it takes 10 minutes to scan the damn thing.

“Snarky Xbox 360 fanboys will no doubt point out that all of this is basically catch up with the 360, but these additions would be warmly welcomed by the PS3 community.” I don’t care what “snarky” fanboys have to say I really don’t read people’s post that act like that PS3, 360, or wii.

    Nothing against you chris.

Lol some people want to be able to go and buy a film from a shop, they want the disc in their collection, they want to be able to take it round to a friends and watch it on their blu-ray player and they don’t want to have DRM stopping them from moving it from one place to another.

downloadable content is the future but is at least a generation away practically speaking. MS next console will likely have blu-ray. unless they let pride get in the way. should be interesting.

360 Nor The 720 Will Ever Get A Blu-Ray Player Feature, Period.
