Rumor: PS4 to Receive “Local” PS1/PS2 Emulation

The PS4 could play PS1 and PS2 games in the future.

At least that’s the word from industry tipster Ahsan “Thuway” Rasheed. Rasheed, of course, has, in the past, been the voice behind several prominent and accurate leaks. His latest reports were conveyed via a series of Tweets containing information about supposed updates coming to the PS4.

According to Rasheed, the new emulation options will be “local” and will include “native 1080p rendering for select titles.” He would elaborate, however, that the PS4’s emulation software “is still buggy” and that currently “not every game works.”

Rasheed has provided no details regarding the origins of this information. These announcements, in turn, should probably be regarded as rumors until a confirmation emerges. That said, his statements would fall in line with other recent leaks from supposed sources within Sony itself. Those earlier reports had similarly suggested that PS1/PS2 emulation was on its way to PS4 and, additionally, that Sony’s PlayStation Now service would only include PS3 games.

What does he mean by emulation?
Do I have to buy the games or can I just access them?

I’m pretty sure it means that any PS1/2 disc will play on the ps4 and some will be upscaled to 1080p
