Rumor: Rock Band DLC Song Prices To Increase By End Of Month

rockband_071204_ms.jpg

Reports are surfacing that claim Rock Band DLC prices are about to double by the end of the month for some songs. Early reports from QJ.net claim that Paul DeGooyer, MTV Senior VP of Home Entertainment, has stated that the current US$.99 price tag on some songs will soar to US$2 at the end of January.

Hopefully, this rumor is false, but it looks like a credible report. Currently, Rock Band downloadable content is selling like hot-cakes, so I don’t see the need for a price increase, but business is business. If a company can find a way to make more money, they will try it. Obviously marketers believe that gamers will be more than willing to pay double the price to continue rocking on Rock Band. I don’t know about the rest of you guys, but $2 is a little steep for one song in my opinion, particularly songs from independent artists. I could justify dropping a dollar on any song I loved, but I may have to think harder about my purchasing if it doubles in cost.

You know, the only reason I buy new tracks is novelty, I’m perfectly happy with the tracks I already have and that shipped with the game. IT IS NOT a necessity to buy new stuff.

Ummm….most songs are 160 points, which is about $2. The only ones I recall being 80 points were the songs that released right around Christmas. So $2 a song is ok, I mean downloading a regular old mp3 is generally $1, a lot more work goes into a song for Rock Band. And of course we, as consumers, always have the option of not buying.

This article is so pointless. The DLC is already $2. There were 5 songs released for a buck but other than that it has all been $2 since they started releasing DLC. This is such a stupid and ignorant article

Maybe you guys should re-read the article. The price change has to do with songs currently selling for around a dollar. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see the prices change on other songs.

Before you say something is stupid or ignorant, make sure you UNDERSTAND what you are actually reading.

I read it; I’ve seen very few songs at a dollar, like I said. Hopefully this price hike isn’t across the board. But yeah, I’ve never understood super pissed-off responses to articles like this. People love an excuse to complain.

This article is totally pointless. There a currently 41 songs available online for Rock Band, 36 of those songs are individually priced at $2 already and always have been. There are only 5 songs available for $1 each, and it was stated that this was a temporary price break when the songs where released. There is no plan to raise the price of the remaining songs.

Maybe if the person who posted this actually owned Rock Band, they would know this.

Kevin is right, when they released the 1 dollar songs around xmas they made it clear that it was a limited time price, so now its going up to regular price $2 which is what we are used to, I don’t think its anything to worry about.

Looks like the DLC price increase happened. All the $1 songs that were released Christmas day are now $2.

It’s only 5 songs that increased from .99 to $2. I bought 3 of the .99 ones a couple weeks ago. If I have to hear All American Rejects Dirty Little Secret 1 more time I’m going to scream. Anytime friend’s kids come over they want to play that song. hehe
