Rumor: Sega Looking to Revive Jet Grind Radio

Gaming Today

The rumor out of Comic-Con last week is that one of my favorite Dreamcast titles, Jet Grind Radio, might be poised for a comeback. Kotaku is reporting that they heard that the franchise might be getting a reboot on none other than the Wii, which would certainly be interesting for tagging from a control layout point of view.

Sega has a newly filed trademark on the game‘s name, covering everything from videogame software to mobile phone games to discs and cassettes, lends additional credence to the story — which seems like it’s just too good to be true.

Waggle-tagging seems like a novel concept, but I’d much rather see the game end up on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. It was such a beautiful game on Dreamcast (as was Jet Set Radio Future on Xbox) that I’d hate for the game to be in any way stifled by the Wii’s technical limits. But if a Wii version is all we were to get, I’d still be all over it.

Could it perhaps make use of the Wii Balance Board? That’s a juicy thought.

Cell shading isn’t exactly high-poly. I’d definitely trade a little extra shiny for wii-motion-plus powered tagging.

I absolutely loved JSRF on the Xbox, It’s about time Sega brought this series back! I’d like to see it on all consoles but mostly the 360 (because it’s the only one i have :) )

Would love to see this game, especially with the balance board.
