I’m classifying this as “rumor” for now simply because there hasn’t been official statement on this; though the source seems pretty damn reliable. According to Time Warner’s 2008 Second-Quarter Report, it seems that Turner is selling off their video game service, GameTap. Unfortunately, the only thing that indicates this is a quick blurb:
“The current year quarter included an $18 million noncash impairment of GameTap as a result of Turner’s decision to sell its on-line video game business…”
Sadly there’s no other information aside from that. Maybe they’re waiting until they have a confirmed buyer before releasing any more information. Either way, I certainly hope this doesn’t mean the end of GameTap, which has really only continued to rise in quality since it’s launch.
