Rumors of Half-life 2: Episode 3 Keep Getting More Pathetic
Half-life 2 was a groundbreaking game, and it’s understandable why folks would be so interested in any possible news of the promised episode 3 continuation. Unfortunately, more and more these days gamers are seeing evidence in ancillary or coincidental details. Yesterday, a post on the SteamForums sparked hope of proof of the long delayed product’s arrival because of names associated to objects within the SDK resources of Valve’s recent free release of Alien Swarm.
The poster claims that the EP3 labeled information nodes in the toolkit are proof that the game is under development. Well here’s the truth of it all.. there are likely some assets for Ep3 that have been made. It’s even likely that the internal Valve team who built Alien Swarm have some of them included in their SDK, or at least references to them.
Does this lead to positive proof that Episode 3 is on approach to release? Not really.
Valve has stated numerous times in the past Episode 3 is coming, just not when or how. At this point the only thing we do each time we react this way is look like Chicken Little. The sky is not falling folks. Episode 3 is in some form of development but don’t bet that it’s on the horizon. Stop getting riled up over nothing. You’re not Sherlock Holmes solving a murder mystery here.. these aren’t clues to the location of the Lindberg baby.
I’ve been covering this story for over 3 years now. When Episode 3 gets here I’ll be as happy as the rest of you, but until then there are more important things to speculate on, like who will be the poster boy for Madden 2012 or how long Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty’s campaign will be.*
*You’ll notice neither of those things are very important BTW.
