RuneScape is Biggest F2P Game Ever with 200 Million Accounts

So many people have made accounts for free-to-play MMO RuneScape that with more than 200 million people signed up, developer Jagex has announced its game has a bigger population than 150 countries around the world.

According to a press release, RuneScape, which was released in 2001, now has 200 million accounts in the game. That makes it basically the biggest F2P game there is. Worth noting that that doesn’t necessarily mean there are 200 million people playing RuneScape, but still — a lot of people have at least shown interest in the game.

“If RuneScape were a country it would be the 5 th largest population in the world, and the game’s over 200 million inhabitants have clocked up in excess of 443 billion minutes of game time so far.”

The browser-based MMO will have an in-game celebration for hitting the 200 million mark, and Jagex has also created a micro-site showing off the history of the game, which you can check out right here.
