Runic Games Announces Torchlight II
One of my favorite games that slipped onto the scene last year was Torchlight. Developed by Runic Games, Torchlight offered up quality hack and slash gamelpay, along with a ton of loot to go after.
Runic always said that multiplayer was their goal, and now they’ve made an announcement that demonstrates that. In the spring of 2011, Runic will release Torchlight II.
According to the just-launched official website, Torchlight 2′s main feature is multiplayer, either online or LAN.
“The most exciting new feature of Torchlight II is the multiplayer element. Play with your friends, and use the free peer-to-peer matchmaking service to meet new players of a similar level and interest. Together players will discover expansive randomized outdoor areas and deep ominous caverns; random instanced and persistent dungeons, a huge variety of all new monsters and villains, endless variations of loot to find, and quests to complete. Players journey through the perilous Overworld, enjoying all new weather features, time of day events, and a rich and cunning story to drive gameplay.
Torchlight II will also include a new version of TorchEd, the free editor that allows gamers to make their own new mods. Judging from the frequency with which mods were released for the first Torchlight title, it’s hard for me to think that there won’t be a flood of mods for this version as well.
If you want some more information, check out the official website. Hopefully, Runic will throw us a new trailer or other assets very soon. Until then, if you haven’t played the first Torchlight, you can pick up the demo or the full game over on Steam.
