Rush’n Attack Ex-Patriot Trailer

Oh man, have I been looking forward to this. Rush’n Attack: Ex Patriot1 is the sequel to 1985′s NES classic, Rush’n Attack, and game that, if you’re old enough to have owned an NES, you probably spent a lot of time with. For its time – the picture above is a screen-shot – it was pretty great, a primitively bloody side-scrolling platformer wherein you basically knifed and show people to death, with the perfunctory objective of stopping the bad guys from Building Their Weapon Of Dooooooom. It also had a sweet 2 player mode similar to Contra that allowed you to team up with a friend and double the knife related programs activities.

Technically, Rush’n Attack had a very terrible sequel, 1989′s M.I.A.: Missing In Action, but nothing since. M.I.A. is probably best forgotten, a sentiment shared by Konami who are ignoring it completely. Ex Patriot is a direct sequel to the original, and is basically the same concept as Capcom’s Bionic Commando: Rearmed series: Take the original and update everything about it but the basic gameplay. I had a chance to put a little time into Rush’n Attack: Ex Patriot at E3 2010 and had a blast, and playing it this week I’ve enjoyed the hell out of it. Depending on your view of nostalgia gaming, your milage may vary, but you can decide for yourself with the new trailer.

It’s available right now on PSN and XBLA.

Oh, the kids today with their premature nostalgia. Rush’n Attack was originally an arcade game, also released as “Green Beret”.
