S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Bethesda Rumor Unconfirmed, Kind Of Denied
Brace yourself for some premium, unclear, completely not entirely certain rumor kiboshing everyone. Remember the rumor, which originally surfaced last April before being quickly crushed by explicit denials, that Bethesda was planning to take over the S.T.A.L.K.E.R franchise? It came back with a vengeance yesterday, thanks to a report on Rock, Paper Shotgun about claims made by a Ukranian blogger. Bethesda, for its part, refused to comment.
Wellp, Kotaku has noticed that official S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Facebook page doesn’t seem to know one way or another whether or not the rumor is true. The news seemed to take the administrator by surprise. “Attention Stalkers,” a post said, “I will get clarification on the “Bethesda purchasing the rights to Stalker” and let you all know as soon as possible!”. A little bit later, the administrator followed that up with a slightly more concrete post. “According to my sources,” they say, “the news that Bethesda purchased the Stalker rights is false. I will continue to keep a look out and if I hear anything new, you will all be the first to know!”
So yeah, this is about as clear as mud. Luckily, Game Front is going to be on hand at QuakeCon, which will give us the perfect opportunity to get an answer directly from Bethesda (assuming they aren’t already planning to make a formal announcement.) We’ll keep you posted.
