S2 Games’ New MOBA, Strife, Play Test Weekend Incoming

With Strife, Heroes of Newerth studio S2 Games is working to create a more accessible “second generation” MOBA. We’ll get to sample the fruits of their labor next weekend when Strife enters play testing.

With a post on the official Strife Twitter, S2 sent the invitation:

When S2 announced Strife back in August, it said it wanted to make a “community-driven” MOBA featuring “mechanics that make teamwork easy, rewarding and satisfying.” Given that MOBA players in League of Legends and Dota 2 often seem to think they’re competing with their own teammates, S2 has its work cut out. But as a Dota 2 and LoL fan who loves the genre but hates the toxic atmosphere that surrounds it, I’m looking forward to seeing what possible solutions Strife has to offer.

Registration for the Trial of Strife closes on Monday, February 24.

I watched a few gameplay videos and cannot fathom how S2 can call Strife a second generation MOBA game. It looks like crap, and worse then the existing crap. It still uses the click to move top-down view formula, which nobody respects anymore. S2 ed themselves by abandoning Savage for HoN, and now they go and repeat the same mistake again. They should have at least made the intelligent decision to go with WASD movement and 3rd person fixed camera, as was experienced in Savage 2′s excellent combat.
