Saints Row 2 Delayed into October in Order to Tweak Co-op
THQ has announced that it will delay Saints Row 2, until October 14 due to product quality and marketing concerns. The delay, according to Senior VP of Marketing Bob Aniello, is to give the game more polish and help THQ bolster its marketing efforts leading up to a holiday time-frame.
Saints Row 2 is a criminal action game where street gangsters are vying for urban territory and includes a highly customizable character system and multiplayer capabilities with what THQ hopes is also a immersive cooperative play experience. Apparently, the co-op is what is pushing the game into October.
According to Lazard Capital’s Colin Sebastian, he believes that theSaints Row 2delay was due to the developer wanting to tweak the co-op mode.
“We believe the primary motivation for the shift is to enhance and improve the title’s cooperative game-play, which is one of the unique features of this game. While improving game quality is important, we also believe that the shift puts more pressure on the title approaching a more crowded holiday market. We also note that online episodic content for GTA IV is due out in 2H08, which could distract from the Saints Row 2 release if they fall within the same time period.”
Whatever THQ’s reasons for the delay are, at least October 14th is not really to bad considering that the game was originally slated for an August 26th release.
