Saints Row 4 Developer Unfazed by Next-Gen Competition
Saints Row 4 is slated for release next month, just few months before next-gen consoles and accompanying games make their debut on the marketplace. Despite this fact, Volition isn’t terribly worried that their game might be overshadowed by their next-gen counterparts.
Speaking to GamesIndustry, Saints Row 4 producer Jim Boone said that this isn’t the first time they’ve gone up against heavy hitters. When the previous game, Saints Row the Third, was released, it went up against a number of big games at the time, but it did well in spite of the competition.
“There were a lot of big heavy hitters going out at the same time, so I wondered,” said Boone “And it went out and was the biggest game we’ve done yet.”
“I think the big thing that we have going for us is that our game is so unique and different from everything else that’s out there, and because we have an audience that absolutely love this game, that helps us cut through some of the other noise that’s out there.”
Boone also revealed that Volition experimented with mobile gaming after its acquisition by Deep Silver, but as they had nothing to add to mobile space, they decided to focus instead on doing what they did best on the console and PC.
Saints Row 4 is slated for an August 20 release.
