It was jarring enough to see a trailer for Duke Nukem Forever surface, but now some actual details about the game – and from a credible source, to boot? A good number of people lost bets on hell freezing over before these things happening, but nevertheless, let’s take a look at what we’ve learned.
George Broussard, co-owner of 3D Realms, took the time to answer a variety of questions from fans. While he didn’t go into great detail about anything, we did discover that the game is running on a heavily modified Unreal engine (which was branched off around the time the Unreal 2 engine was all the craze); the game has been restarted at least three times, with this most recent iteration having begun around 2004; and you may have the opportunity to impale aliens with a forklift.
Environmental puzzles were also mentioned, but for years, pushing boxes around was considered an acceptable form of in-game puzzle, so we shouldn’t get too carried away.
