SCEA Unveils PlayStation-edu

SCEA is encouraging the youth of the nation to become the game developers of the future with the launch of PlayStation-edu. The program makes PS2 and PSP development kits available to qualified universities and colleges.

SCEA hopes that PlayStation-edu will help computer science and engineering teachers to teach students about PlayStaion hardware and will be ready program on the system after graduation.

“We expect this program to be a great tool to teach students about the PlayStation platforms,” said Mark Danks, senior manager, developer support, said on the PlayStation blog.

Given that many developers have siad its more difficult to design for the PS3, the PlayStaion-edu program seems like a very smart move for Sony. It will also greatly benefit the next generation of designers as well since, unlike the Xbox 360, the PS3 isn’t merely a specialized PC.
