See Halo 4 Rendered in CryEngine 3 [PIC]


Thanks to information already released by 343 Industries, we know that Halo 4 will be using an updated version of the engine featured in Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. This definitively ties the game to the current generation of consoles — though the graphics will no doubt be attractive, they won’t break any new ground.

Via Gameranx, however, we caught a glimpse at what might have been. Browsing the portfolio site of 3D artist Rens De Boer, currently at work on Battlefield 3, the Gameranx folks noticed this striking rendering of a Halo 3 hallway using Crytek’s CryEngine 3. Feast your eyes on the detail and the cool lighting effects, and try not to think about how some of those bells and whistles will have to wait until Halo 5.

I guess 343i is more concerned with content than graphics. I hate it when devs do that.

Honestly, I’ll take content over graphics any day.

Content over graphics is great, but really it’s more along the lines of the Console probably can’t handle those graphics and maintain a constant framerate (if any framerate).
