SEGA: Alien: Isolation’s Ripley DLC Available After Launch

In a move that surprised precisely no one, SEGA announced yesterday that the pre-order bonus missions starring the original Alien cast will be available after launch.

SEGA made the announcement on the Alien: Isolation Facebook page, writing,

Some of you have been asking if the two pieces of content are only available through pre-order or if we’ll be releasing them at a later date as well. So, I can confirm today that we do plan to release both Crew Expendable and Last Survivor at a later date and we’ll have more details for you guys on that shortly.

So once again, we see the futility of pre-ordering to gain access to some sort of “exclusive” content. As is always the case, it’ll be available to anyone with a few bucks in their hand once the hubbub around the launch dies down. Kudos to SEGA for being a bit more upfront about it than most.

This is why I dislike pre-order bonuses so much.

So why the hell didnt they just add it to the game disc?
So if I preorder it I have to stream it or wait until its available to stream if I choose not to preorder.
How about wait until its 20 bucks in a year with all the content on the disc as a greatest hits.

Things like this piss me off. But it also a good sign because I didnt buy colonial marines and look how that ended up. I believe this will end up the same way.

Just give us the content on the disc and stop messing with your consumers. More people will buy it.

“Bonuses” of this kind do nothing for me. Piecing out a game in this way is just another example of business end taking the lead over the creative one. It feels like a money grab, and I don’t participate in money grabs. I’ll wait and get a cheap gold edition down the road — if I still give a hoot by then.
