Sessler’s Soapbox: CoD4 – A Very Attractive Foot

G4 TV’s Adam Sessler is back on his soapbox again, and this week, he’s talking about Call of Duty 4. Adam hits the nail on the head when he describes CoD4, saying, “This game kicks ass, and it kicks ass with a very large foot.”

If you haven’t played Call of Duty 4 yet, be warned: the game is addictive. It’s fast-paced, fun, and looks amazing. As Adam says from the Soapbox, this may be closest we’ve seen a game get to what a real battle is like. It’s hectic, there are explosions and gunfire all around you, and you never know where the bullet that hits you is going to come from.

Now, I know that no game can accurately simulate what it’s like to actually place your life on the line on an actual battlefield. However, if this game bears only the faintest resemblance to what a real battlefield is like, you can’t help but have an absolute ton of respect for those people who do step onto the real battlefields of the world. We have a few veterans here at Gaming Today and FileFront, and my hat is always off to them.

All that said, if you’re still doubting that the game is as good as all the reviews say, stop. Get in your car, and go pick up a copy so you can experience it for yourself. Yeah, it’s that good.

Thanks, G4 TV!

I think the game is pretty damn close to what real war is like, but still perhaps a little too organized. I don’t think people realize how confusing real fire fights tend to be. There’s really no thinking involved.. you just go into training mode .. that’s when all the good brainwashing kicks in. I think games are getting very close to being realistic in battles, which is scary in some ways, but it will never get to the point where it is too realistic I hope. Fortunately with a video game, there’s little emotional investment involved when the guy next to you falls.

I have to agree with Sessler on COD4. This game does kick serious ass.

I, personally, thought some parts were a bit too realistic. While you are inside of the AC-130 and shooting those people on the ground, I got shivers down my spine and felt awful for the next 20-30 minutes after the mission.

I just hope games don’t get so real as to turn me off completely while playing them. I think that is going to be a pretty serious thing that developers are going to have to consider when making games 2-3 years from now, when graphics have no doubt improved to give almost a complete level of immersion.

Come to think of it, I’m a little worried that I wont be able to play Killzone 2 if its as immersive as they say.

i would also like to add that this is the only game that has made me want to play single player since the GTA series

The thing that makes it very unreal is that you don’t die from a good bullet wound to the head or torso. As long as your health bar has enough juice, you’re okay for battle. That’s what makes it fakey.

Other than that, the game rocks. because it’s suppose to be a game not real life. ;)

Why can’t Xplay be cool and strait foward like this. I miss the good ole days when Adam and Morgan would talk about games, and they weren’t going out of their was to sound like total ass holes. Old Xplay production crew, please come home.

I have owned COD4 and I traded it in 4 days. Yes, its that bad. Baldy here is trying to sell something that just isn’t that good. I know it will sound strange to a lot of people, but I think people will grow tired of it quite soon.

I thought I’d be turned off by the short single player, but the polish is so good I’m on my third play through. I thought that it would be hard to improve on COD 2, but this blows it away. Much less frustration, way more intense and fun. As to the earlier comments about realism, this game is how I like it. Real battle has wounded, people with holes, missing body parts, screaming and calling for help. COD 4 has dolls that disappear after half a minute. It’s really quite clinical compared to the real thing. Still, the game left me feeling a bit melancholy the first time through, thinking about how much war actually sucks.

is everyone on drugs or did they get paid a boatload of cash to hock this game? I mean REALLY. any retard would see that it’s 90% COD3 with different models and a different enviroment, THAT’S IT. How is this game revolutionary? Because it has an online level up system that’s been similarly done before? It’s nothing revolutionary how are people giving this game such amazing reviews when it’s nothing ing special. people need to get their heads examined or suddenly the world got a whole lot ing dumber and I wasn’t informed.

jmac, I find it interesting that you compare this game to CoD3. CoD3 was not made by Infinity Ward. They had no involvement with it, and don’t really acknowledge it as part of the CoD series.

It was a while back, but I remember seeing the story that the executable that ran all the copies of CoD4 in the IW offices being named cod3.exe. That is pretty telling in and of itself.

Oh, and CoD3 was not good by any stretch of the imagination. I’m glad IW came along and gave the series some life again. Unfortunately, word is that this trend is going to continue, and that someone else will make a CoD title for release next year while IW works on their next release.

well, if you rip a copy of the xbox 360 version you will find Cod3.exe in the main file root which means bingo they used the source from that game to run this game but that doesnt mean the game is boring or not fun it actually has a really good online multiplayer and besides all the fanboyism and bs about gaming getting graphically better the gameplay is solid.
people get mad when they repolish a old game i dont because it makes it fun again and gives it new life like vice city stories who didnt like that it was good.
sorry this message was delayed 3 years by my piss poor dial up connection.

Actually, they had cod3.exe in the root, because that was what they called the game internally. That was reported prior to the launch CoD4.
