Shadow of the Eternals Kickstarter “Temporarily” Canceled

Precursor Games has announced the cancellation of their crowdfunding campaign for Shadow of the Eternals, both on Kickstarter and on their own website.

Shadow of the Eternals was originally envisioned as a spiritual successor to the 2002 survival horror game Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, which launched with a funding goal of $1.5 million.

The game was intended to be released in an episodic structure, the first of which was scheduled for release in 2014 for the Windows PC and Wii U, pending a successful crowdfunding campaign.

The cancellation was disclosed by the company’s CEO Paul Caporicci, who stated the studio’s intention to review “a host of new exciting opportunities that will make the game better than we envisioned” and re-launch the campaign in the near future.

He stated that backers of the current Kickstarter campaign will not have their accounts charged due to the cancellation, and that those who pledged money through the website’s crowdfunding campaign will receive full refunds through PayPal.

I guess this puts paid to the bad press they got when it looked like they’d take backers money even if the project wasn’t funded fully :D
