Shantae: Pirate’s Curse – Unlockable Endings, Modes & Levels Guide

WayForward’s latest open-ended platformer Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse is coming to home consoles right as the holidays hit. Their half-genie series is new to the WiiU, so we’re hitting up the 3DS version to show off a slew of secret stuff. There’s a hidden level, new modes, and an alternate ending to unlock after completing the game once.

New Game+: Pirate Mode

Finish the game to unlock Pirate Mode when starting a new game. Here, Shantae begins with all the pirate gear normally collected throughout the course of the story. This makes every area and shortcut available from the start, making it possible to unlock the speedrun wallpaper.

Unlockable Wallpapers

• Wallpaper #1: Finish the game.
• Wallpaper #2: Finish the game with all collectibles — upgrades, Heart Squids and Magic.
• Wallpaper #3: Finish the game in less than two hours.

Alternate Ending & Extended Final Boss Battle

Find all 20 Cursed Cacklebats and collect the Dark Magic before defeating the last boss. Enter the battle with all 20 obtained and an alternate cutscene will play out, leading to the Final Boss’ second phase. Win and you’ll get an improved ending.

Game Boy Color Secret Level

It’s possible to play a hidden level from the original Shantae on Nintendo’s GBC. To unlock this stage, collect the Pirate Boot then travel to the first dungeon on Saliva Island. In the very first room, ram through the set of stairs to make this level available.
