Shocker: People Want a PS3 for the Blu-ray Player
I likely would not have purchased a PS3 when I did were it not for the fact that it uses Blu-ray. But it was a must for me because my roommate with the 46″ HDTV and Blu-ray player was moving out. So I picked up a TV and a PS3 and watched Doom. Bad movie, sure, but it looks soooooo good on Blu.
Oh yeah, there is a point to this post. Nielson, the research firm most known for its television ratings system, has a poll in which 700 people between the ages of 7 and 54 who were interested in picking up Sony’s system were asked to give reasons why they were in the market. Sixty-five percent of the respondants said they wanted a Blu-ray player, making that the top answer.
Reasons nos. 2, 3 and 4, all given by more than 60% of the interviewees, were last years price cut, the PS3′s game library and as an upgrade from the PS2. No. 3 there is amusing to me, considering all the scorn aimed at the PS3 library (or lack thereof) for so long; the times are a changin’, I guess.
Way down on the list is that there’s a specific game they want the system for; only 12% gave that answer, and those who did usually named God of War III as the specific game. That’s wacky.
If you head over to Kotaku, where all this came from, you can see the top-10 list of reasons folks gave for wanting a PS3.
