SimCity Hack Lets You Rampage Through Others’ Cities

The hacker who managed to get SimCity running offline and released some edited files to allow other players to edit their city beyond the borders of the game has also figured out how to mess with other players’ cities.

UKAzzer notes that by editing some files on his computer, he was able to get the game to disable Observer mode when visiting other player cities and allow him to modify their city as if it were his own.

“There is still no city syncing at this most basic level, so you can wreak havoc on a friend’s city, quit out, log back in, and it’s back the way it was — great fun!”

Fortunately for other players and also for the game’s developers, he believes that actually saving the results to the server would actually require a computer with the same Origin ID as the city’s owner.

In a video posted by UKAzzer, seen below, he shared his hope that the game’s developers at Maxis have server-side safeguards in place to prevent other players from tampering with your cities.

I love how this is all blowing up in EA’s face.
