SimCity Offline Play Patch Enters “Final Testing”

SimCity’s Update 10 is entering its final development stages.

The status report came today via a posting on the official SimCity Twitter account. “Update 10 is in final testing,” read the Tweet. “Almost there Mayors.” Update 10 will add long awaited offline functionality to the game.

Offline play has been a much requested feature since SimCity first released back in 2013. The game’s launch was, of course, marred by technical issues rooted primarily in its always online nature. Electronic Arts initially said that it had “no intention” of adding offline functionality to the game.

The publisher reversed that stance earlier this year, however, announcing that the game’s developers at Maxis were, in fact, fashioning a patch that would allow offline play. Today’s Tweet sadly didn’t include a release date of any sort for said patch. That said, it would seem that Update 10 will be arriving be sooner rather than later.

I could not care less. Unless they make all the DLC free I probably won’t ever touch this game again. After the awful launch, lingering issues, and extremely limiting city sizes… I see no reason to invest my time into this game ever again. Wish I had known that before purchasing it.

So wait. . . . the patch is still in development?

A patch that was effectively duplicated by one random blogger two weeks after the games initial release.

What the hell EA?
How are you not able to match the capabilities and time scale of fan who cracked this exact problem so soon after release?

Is the one guy you have assigned working on this patch only work a half-day a week?

What is going on at the largest third party studio in the industry that they just can’t seem to pull anything off with competence anymore?
