SimCity Offline Update Releasing Today

SimCity will be updated with offline play today.

According to Maxis, the update will come via the Update 10 patch the studio said was in “final testing” last week. The update’s patch notes also confirm that the single-player mode will include “multi-city play, regional interdependence, and city specialization” as well as a bevy of offline save options.

Eager players will be able to download the patch beginning this morning at 6AM PDT. Unfortunately, Maxis has confirmed that the update will also require some “server down time” beginning at 7:20AM PDT. The down time will be used for quality assurance testing and will only last “for a few hours.”

This offline update will, of course, fulfill the wishes of many SimCity fans who were both disappointed by Maxis and Electronic Arts’ initial commitment to keeping the game always online. The stance left many gamers angry, especially in the light of catastrophic server issues that left the game virtually unplayable for many players following its release last year.
