Skyblivion Trailer Debuts New Skyrim Mod
The Skyblivion mod team has released a new trailer showcasing its efforts to rebuild Oblivion using the engine from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
The trailer, which runs just shy of three minutes in length, focuses primarily on environments from The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion that have been remade with Skyrim’s engine. The majority of the areas displayed are drawn from the Oblivion’s earlier, starting areas. These would include the opening dungeon and sewer areas as well as several outlying locations. This focus on early environments would seem to tie into the status of the mod itself which, according to its creators, is just now getting off its feet.
“Skyblivion is very early in development,” explained the modding team in the video’s description. It’s the team’s intention to build and utilize a network of volunteers to help complete its mod. “In order to do this project right we will need help from the community with either the development or simply spreading the word so that we can get people interested in helping out with this project.”
The Skyblivion project will be rooted in the TESRenewal community which is committed to the recreation older Elder Scrolls games with modern technologies. The project will be developed alongside TESRenewal’s ongoing Skywind mod which aims to recreate The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind with the Skyrim engine. The Skyblivion team has, in turn, affirmed that its mod won’t be stealing any resources or personnel from Skywind. Due to the crowdsourced nature of the development, the mod currently has no firm release date. That said, it will apparently include all of Oblivion’s DLC content in addition to its main game offerings.
