Skyrim Creation Kit Available On Steam! Go Get It!

It’s here! It’s finally here! Bethesda has dropped its Creation Kit for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on Steam and you can finally access the development kit to start modding the s–t out of the game.

The news comes by way of Bethesda Vice President for PR and Marketing Pete Hines, who let loose on his Twitter feed mere moments ago. Hines also posted a link to the Creation Kit Wiki, which will teach you everything you need to know about making stuff in Skyrim. You can find the Wiki riiiight here.

Hines says players should get the option to automatically download the Creation Kit when they log into Steam.

Guess what else! Bethesda is providing a high-res texture pack as that bonus that Hines alluded to the other day. From the Bethesda press release:

Experience The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as you’ve never seen it before with the Skyrim High-Resolution Texture Pack. Make sure your system requirements exceed Skyrim’s recommended specs before attempting to install, including Windows Vista or 7 operating system, a minimum of 4GB of system RAM, and a DirectX 9.0c compatible NVIDIA or AMD ATI video card with at least 1 GB of RAM and the latest drivers.

Get over to Steam and start downloading, kids.

WTF

On February 7, 2012 at 12:13 pm

I looked on steam View>Tools> there is no creation kit, so far what I’m told is that I have to purchase the game off steam in order to get the option to download the creation kit… WTH type of crap is that, I already bought a copy on midnight release of skyrim at gamestop now I have to buy another copy in order to get the creation kit… to hell with steam

I can’t have the Creation Kit because I purchased Skyrim in a store and not over Steam? Are you serious?

I can’t find the kit either, I’ve been trying to download it all morning and was looking forward to it, if this is true Steam needs to remedy that stat…

I found the creation kit. I even bought it at gamestop. It is Wednesday the 7 at 5:23 PM. It is under tools and is named “Creation Kit.” It works for me.

Bought Skyrim at gamestop, not the creation kit. Sorry for the poor wording.

This may be a dumb question but…

I’m a PS3 user who is going to get Skyrim for the PC as well as a better PC. My question is if you can use the create kit without Skyrim.

@Robert
Probably not. If it works like past creation kits, it probably has to load all of the game files in order for you to modify them, and you won’t have the game files if you don’t already have the game. On the plus side, welcome to the PC gaming master race! I’ve been waiting for this kit for a while. Mods are what really make Bethesda games great for me, and I’m glad they are continuing to put good tools and support into the hands of the modding community.

you Pirates, it uses Steam DRM, doesn’t matter if you bought it at gamestop or another retail store… god, you teenagers are stupid.

Where is a non-Steam place to download it?

Frank

On February 7, 2012 at 7:41 pm

(and yes, I bought the game, pheonix to unpack, I do not pirate, and I don’t allow steam drm on my machine)

You don’t need to own skyrim to use the the creation kit, but you will not be able to load the games content without the skyrim.esm file which contains basically everything in skyrim.

Just found where to load creation kit. Load steam, if it is not already loaded. DO NOT LOAD SKYRIM. Click on library. Top left click view. Should have option to click tools. This brings up list of options to download.(nothing was installed on mine, guess this depends) Option of Creation Kit is there. Click it and the rest is pretty much self explaining. Hope this helps.

Do you have to buy skyrim on steam to get the creation kit?

madcanuck

On March 1, 2012 at 9:55 am

You in idiots saying you have it bought the copy…. morons … those of us who didnt order it through steam have to wait…. until bethesda makes a non steam version or hell freezes over. Steam has done this to curb torrent gamers …. yes its bull but what are you gonna do they ignore emails with anything related to skyrim… steam is the official hitler of gaming… and you s who are draggin us along saying its available in the tools section are full of … go back to yer moms basement and whack off to katy perry in goofs

It does work

In the gray box next to the steam icon.

This is ridiculous. Madcanuck, don’t call us idiots. That’s not fair. I bought the game for $59 f^ck*ng dollars when it came out (and it is still $59 here). To say that Bethesda denies access to the CK for everyone who didn’t buy it via Steam because of torrent users is ignorant.

It needs to be available to everyone, not just Steam users, and I can’t believe that Bethesda would exclude us, through Steam or outright. Counterproductive, from a bottom-line standpoint. No, it should be available for use by everyone.

Forcing purchasers of their games to use Steam, and Steam’s way of doing things, is a facist ploy, and Bethesda would (will?) be in a lot of jam if this turns out to be true. Could Steam even legally withold from the rest of us?

I’m going to find out, because I want the d@mned creation kit, and I am going to get it. One way or another. This is the kind of thing that turns honest gamers into pirates, not protects the developers, et. al, from piracy. Don’t they know that by now?

And StupidPirates, I am far from being a teenager. Far from it. If the CK is available to us all, then why doesn’t it show up when searching (all over, believe me) at Steam?

When I find it – and I will find it – I will post here. Sorry for the rant.

Correcting a typo in my own user name, ffs.

Oh, and to “It does work”, the CK Wiki has nothing that lends to a CK download. The link they provide for the download just leads to Steam.

The below worked for me, when you click library, click the arrow beside ALL GAMES in the search box and change that to TOOLS. It will be called “CREATION KIT”, just scroll down the list. I was having trouble finding it until I read this person’s guide. Thanks tomurph.

Forgot to say, when you click Library at the top of the steam window where it says “STORE LIBRARY NEWS COMMUNITY”, if you don’t change the search box from the ALL GAMES option to TOOLS it won’t return any results.

Your online page is admittedly wonderful. Everyone loves browsing it inspite of this, the writing looks kinda bizarre considering the opera net broswer
