Skyrim DLC to Feel Like Expansion Packs

In an interview with Kotaku, Bethesda’s Todd Howard explained that Skyrim’s DLC will be meatier than Fallout 3′s and feel more like expansion packs.

Howard said:

Our plan now is to take more time, to have more meat on them [for Skyrim]. They’ll feel closer to an expansion pack.

Of course, more content per DLC means more development time, and consequently, more time elapsed between content updates. Fortunately, Howard doesn’t intend to leave us high and dry:

Because that gap is going to be bigger, we want to put little things out for free in between. We’ve already done that for PC with the high-res pack. We’re trying to figure out what those things are.

While Howard specify when we might see the first batch of new content for the game, he did state development was in the “very early” stages. In the interim, we always have mods, right?

Hopefully these will feel more ‘Tribunal’ and ‘Bloodmoon’ instead of ‘horse armor’ and ‘Knights of the Nine.’ I miss when games had huge expansions.
