How to Access the new Dragonborn DLC Content

NOTE: If you’re experiencing issues with this DLC (The Cultists do not appear.) make sure you connect to X-Box Live and download the latest patch for Skyrim. You may have to delete and re-download the Dragonborn DLC after this to activate it.

  • This downloadable content can be started at any point in Skyrim after the tutorial. If you’ve finished the main story quest, some dialogue from important DLC NPCs will be different.
  • After purchasing and installing the Dragonborn DLC, load the game.
  • Wander the world. Cultists from the island of Solstheim will be hunting you. They’ll appear as a random encounter and attack. Try fast-traveling to areas like towns or outside dungeons to make them appear.
  • Kill the Cultists of Miraak, and loot their bodies. Find a note carried by the cultists. Taking it will start the main DLC quest.
  • To reach Solstheim, travel to the marker in Windhelm to find the cultists’ boat. Speak with the Ship’s Captain to convince him to take you, and you’ll sail for Solstheim.

I just played Dragonborn for 2 hours and had 4 freeze ups. Hope this is not the norm. I ran into the cultists in Riverwood and a dragon showed up. But all said I do like the new map. Just wondering if they will raise the level you can get to?

For anyone else having as much trouble getting it started as I did and scouring the internet for answers:

If your 360 isn’t always connected to the internet/Live, launch Skyrim while still online to make sure you have the most recent updates for the game. If you don’t have the most recent updates, the DLC does not seem to work.

Redownload the DLC. I had to do this after downloading it the first time but not updating the game.

To start the quest itself, going to Whiterun does NOT ensure an attack. I tried it about two dozen times in different ways (waiting, saving, fast traveling, entering on foot) with no luck. Go straight to the harbor at Windhelm. If the DLC installed properly there will be two largish ships there. The one on the right will take you to Solstheim. If it didn’t install properly (as happened on my first go around with it) there will only be one.

I have checked all the requirements for this DLC, and I fit all of them. I downloaded the DLC, and the boat is nowhere to be found, and the cultists will not spawn no matter how long I wait or how many times I join any of the towns. My main quest line is finished as well, so there should be no story issues. Honestly, I paid 20 bucks for this and everyone seems to have a much easier time starting this quest line. Are there any other recorded problems that I may need to fix?

I’m sorry to hear about your problems, so I went digging to hopefully find a solution. Apparently, there are many issues with the DLC at this stage, and Bethesda is working to patch some of the problems. But, if you’re not willing to wait on a patch, I was able to find a thread with suggested solutions for technical problems.

for starting dragonborn cultist not appear issue please update your skyrim to 1.8 patch without 1.8patch update dragonborn dlc not work

for freezing issue when reach to solsthiem by boat , mainly it happens if you first face cultist kill them and then you start this quest for this issue first directly go to solsthiem with boat without questioning with cultist then come back to skyrim and face cultist it will solve the freezing issue.

The cultists never showed up for me, so I tried to do the method of just taking the ship. It wasn’t there though… So I saved and restarted my Xbox, works just fine now!
