Skyrim Has Texture Issues on the XBox 360

Pretty much everyone has been playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim since it launched Friday, and there haven’t been a ton of issues reported. However, XBox 360 users who have installed the game to their hard drive are seeing some strange texture behavior.

In a YouTube video that you can watch below, you can see fairly clearly that the textures seem to look much worse when the game is installed onto the 360′s hard drive than when it’s run from the disk. This fairly odd circumstance has already been addressed by Bethesda in a post on their official forums, where they said,

Skyrim uses a lot of dynamic streaming systems, including textures. We’ve seen a few reports of certain textures temporarily scaling down on the Xbox 360, and not scaling back up. We have verified that this issue does not occur when playing off the disk and when the game is fully cached (not installed).

Skyrim makes heavy use of the Xbox 360 caching system, and caches over the normal course of play while in menus or interiors. This cache can be wiped when other games are played or when the user manually removes it. We’re working on a solution in the next title update for those who have installed the game.

So, the long and short of the matter is this: If you’re playing on XBox 360, you’ll get better looking textures if you don’t install the game to your hard drive, at least for now. That may change once the next title update hits.

Here’s that video we mentioned above.

I am having issues with controlling the direction of my character. It is very hard getting him to go into the direction I want. Especially if someone attacks from behind. By the time I get turned around I am dead. I also bought a brand new controller thinking that it might be mine, but it still does it with the new controller. Any suggestions?

@Leslie Banks

simple. You’re not playing on the PC. Using a mouse is way easier to turn around.

Srsly, check your settings and up your view speed.

Hey I’m on 360 and am having a problem with saved games, when I die its coming up ‘disc unreadable’ and the autosaves don’t load however some saves I have made work but yet others don’t! Any ideas?

Figured I’d go ahead and ask. We first rented our game from a Redbox to try it out and see if we liked it and hardly had any problems with that disk. Now (with the disk we bought) we often have freezes and horrible lag while some cut-scenes won’t even load. Quite frequently the game play will freeze up for a few moments and then go back to working.

seriously, 360 is the worst of them. Only reason the ports are better on 360 is because microsoft has everyone sucking their d. When it comes to pure exclusives PC dominates with ps3 second. Seriously, halo and gears was not good lmao.

This silly consoles, holding back PC potential, already there are mods that make this game look even BETTER than it already does.

I own all systems. Only reason why i have an xbox is so i can play kiddie MW3 with my friends.

And sadly, AMD is not better than Intel. Though I have an AMD rig, i now wish i didnt make the phantom white case a must and save few bucks to get an i5 2500.

Amd Phenom II x2 555
ASRock Extreme 3 870(I dont recomend, first one faulty, this one 2 ddr slots are bad)
XFX Radeon 6850 1GB(need another for xfire)
8GB Kingston HyperX 1600
1TB Seagate 6.0Gb/s
Antec High Current Gamer 750w
NZXT Phantom White case(DROOOOOOL)

@LIte

That’s a problem with the game itself not caching game textures. Not a problem with the Xbox.

Oh, and by the way;

PC>All.

@Xbox360 4 lyf

It’s a problem with the game engine not able to handle certain events, and as a result crashing.

This can only be resolved by the game developer.

When it comes to price/performance, yes, AMD is better. However, whenever price isn’t a large factor and you’re able to afford higher-end Intel equipment, Intel would be the better buy as far as performance is concerned.
