Level Up Glitch Instructions

NOTE: This glitch works for any plot-important invulnerable NPCs! This also works on Ralof, an early companion from Helgen if you do decide to regroup with him.

  1. NOTE: Before trying this glitch, you’ll need to free Hadvar from Helgen. During the quest “Unbound”, follow Helgen to escape instead of regrouping with Ralof. Now Hadvar will appear in Riverwood.
  2. Travel to Riverwood and enter Alvor and Sigrid’s House. Hadvar is inside, he’s who you want to find.
  3. Wait after 8 AM for Alvor to leave. Now Sigrid and a little girl will be downstairs while Hadvar waits upstairs alone. If Hadvar isn’t upstairs, just wait for him to come upstairs.
  4. Now save your game before continuing!
  5. With Hadvar alone upstairs, sneak behind him. Equip whatever weapon corresponding to the skill you want to level up; like “One-Handed” or “Two-Handed.”
  6. Perform a heavy strike on Hadvar from behind while sneaking. Doing so will dramatically increase your Sneak and combat skill. He’ll fall over and get back up with no criminal repercussions. Hadvar is invulnerable — he won’t die from your attacks.
  7. Repeat the process, waiting for him to stand up, sneaking behind him, and hitting Hadvar with a heavy strike.
  8. Only some magic attacks will work, others won’t, you’ll have to experiment.
  9. Keep sneaking and attacking to level up your skills as desired.

Can U level Marksman this way to?

On November 14, 2011 at 2:41 am

Also works with any and all invulnerable NPCs that are part of the plot. Like the master of the Greybeards (i won’t spoil who) for example, you can attack him as much as you want and level up your skills as desired he won’t die

On November 14, 2011 at 8:08 am

why make a game boring…i say play through it all first THEN around with glitches :D

Aaron B.

On November 14, 2011 at 8:50 am

What Raymond said. Leave it for the 2nd playthrough or something. It’s just like any other game released over the past 5 years. People scramble to find cheats and exploits. Way to get your money’s worth on the game, suckers. *smh*

On November 14, 2011 at 10:53 am

I did just like it said in descriptions and Hadvar started attacking me as well as the guard. What am I doing wrong?

On November 14, 2011 at 12:52 pm

not sure but during some quests it said kill puuragh or whatever his name is so i went to kill him..he would not he is a dragon this could be useful for levelling up faster…not sure give it a try

On November 14, 2011 at 3:17 pm

I’m all for glitches which help attributes and give you an edge but I save them for the second playthrough after knowing what’s going on. There’s no fun in being able to swing ur sword or so at something just once and killing it as if you were the finger of God itself and on the first playthrough. What’s the rush anyway? Think the system will spew out gold if you get it done in a week? Sit down, shut up and play it through. I’m sure that whenever you guys actually land a job as a developer you can Max all your perks and whatnots and so much as fart and kill every denizen in a game. Great job spending money on a game you’ll probably get bored with in a month.

On November 14, 2011 at 4:15 pm

Or you could shut up and not click on this page and let people who want glitch do whatever they want, and the people who don’t want to just ignore it and do something else with your no life besides troll.

On November 14, 2011 at 4:43 pm

@ Everyone who is offended by cheating:

We aren’t ruining your game so why tell people to shut up and play it the right way? I buy the game for the story and cheating. It will never matter for you since it isn’t like I’m going to come into your game and kill you or something. Calm down. Play your own game and gtfo of mine.

On November 14, 2011 at 4:51 pm

if he’s attacking you he’s seen you and/or your using normal strikes and not a powered up strike. i found if you stay behind him you’ll eventually figure out the timing so you can charge up a strike and hit as soon as his health bar reappears. after the sneak skill is 100 theres not much point as combat takes ages to increase

You steal the souls of dragons and can learn how to use dragon powers.
How much of a cheat is it really? Is it going to complete all the quests for you? No. Just shut up and die.

On November 16, 2011 at 9:39 am

all of you need to relax its just a game if he wants to play the game the way it was intended to the first time more respect to him, if someone wants to cheat there just missing out on some things and its to bad for them, ether way let whoever play the game the way they want to and don’t tell them how to its there game not yours.

Kevin C.

On November 22, 2011 at 8:50 am

For all of you that thinks cheating ruins the game. Before I left the first cave, I was level 18 with my sneak skill at 100 from wrapping a rubber band around one of my old controllers thumbsticks and letting my character walk into a corner for about 8 hours by the bear at the end of the cave, and that’s not a glitch. Having my sneak skill so high starting off will not ruin the game. In fact, I can sneak by tougher enemies and won’t have to get sidetracked trying to level up my combat skills to continue with the story. Anyway, blowing though the main storyline fast with help you understand the plot better.

On November 24, 2011 at 4:32 pm

One day we’ll all see that this was just a cover for the real problem…noobs get pwnd!!!!

On November 24, 2011 at 9:00 pm

Although I’m not usually one to pass up the point of least resistance, I have waited too d#@$ long to not learn every in and out, if that takes using a glitch or exploit here or there to get out of a pickle, I’m in. However, the only way you will ever truly know safe up, is to make it like a black smith and just grind it out.

BTW if you wait to escort esbern to river wood he makes a nasty companion when combined with( I think its ) Areano from Azura’s Shrine once she is cut off.

Not completing certain quests can give you a badass crew to siege and scour the wastes of Skyrim

On November 24, 2011 at 9:04 pm

**know safe up**-should’ve been know wat’s up

On November 24, 2011 at 9:15 pm

Sorry to over post but I’m not to sure how it happened, either by equipping enchanted itemsand handing them to your companion several times or a combination of my piece of sh!t pawnshop arcade core xbox and glitchy 60G harddrive, I managed to stack magic regeneration to almost constant! It was fleeting.

On November 25, 2011 at 1:38 am

Hey guys,

I just figured out that the starter fire spell doesn’t work on Hadvar. He starts attacking you and the whole village. I can’t get him to stop attacking me whenever I see him. Any suggestions?

On November 26, 2011 at 5:38 pm

If you wanna level up the right way go ahead I don’t care cheats for for cheaters and I’m a cheater so I’m okay with it. I just wanted cheat and have my things straight up so I don’t really care if you wanna play the game right games are just an escape from reality and you know it’s just f***** stupid to talk about this crap

On November 27, 2011 at 12:55 am

For all the people that are saying “wait till you’ve finished the game”; Good luck with that.

On November 27, 2011 at 12:32 pm

I finished the main quest first time without using any of the cheats or glitches, but this would have made my life much easier, thanks for the info!

On November 27, 2011 at 10:44 pm

The main story quest is not even a fraction of the rest of the game story. And cheating is the shettt~!

On November 28, 2011 at 10:22 pm

Folks…why the hate and anger. To each his own. I’ve been playing it through at my own pace but certainly take advantage of some of the cheats to speed up play. With so many quests and places to explore/discover/conquer, some of the helpful cheats speed up play but i would never claim to not be getting my moola’s worth. With MW3 being a huge let down…and if some of you are big fans, i’m sure you’re the camping fools that ruin the experience…let’s give Bethesda a HUGE thumbs up for making Skyrim the bomb.

On November 29, 2011 at 1:24 am

Dudes and Dudettes, it’s a game. Play like you want to. And hell yeah, finish the main plot then go around with side quests. That’s how the game should be played s.

On November 29, 2011 at 6:40 am

I say, play through the game as it was intended, which is with glitches. Bethesda must know about these glitches that have existed since Fallout 3, but they haven’t done anything to fix them, maybe they don’t feel it needs fixing. If cheating enhances your experience, go ahead, if not, that’s cool. I think we should all mind our gamein`business.

On November 29, 2011 at 9:44 am

haha kids gettin mad, cheating is fun. i dont think id do it to that extent though, i might do it a little to give me a slight edge in the game, not to get to level 50 in the first hour of the game haha. neat little glitch though, and im pretty sure you can do it in the dark brotherhood sanctuary, and they dont attack back no matter what, you can go around doing it to everyone.

On November 29, 2011 at 4:01 pm

See I have a big issue with people cheating to gain an advantage over OTHER people, but when it comes to single player games like this or a game that you don’t play against an actual person, I have no issue with it. Some people like a challenging story while others prefer to enjoy the story without spending forever on a certain objective because a skill isn’t high enough. Both viewpoints are correct because it is based on personal preference.

Bottom line, play the game how you want to play it and how you will enjoy it; unless it interferes with another person’s playing experience.

On November 30, 2011 at 8:05 am

It better it hadvar don’t open the chest instead grab the sworf off the wall

On December 1, 2011 at 3:13 am

Just a quick little tip i learned the hard way… dont try to do this with a dual wield power strike. Only the first of the hits is hidden, the other 2 count as him seeing you. Only use a single one hand power strike or two hand power strike in order to not get caught

On December 1, 2011 at 11:48 pm

Look we all came to the site, we all came for the same reason, just a glimpse. So :……………tnow to goods; your follower has infinite inventory. Just put all your eggs in one basket and.ask her or him to “take all items”. It seems to usually convert all items to stolen. Not sure. Also I f*@$#@ love this game.

On December 2, 2011 at 9:57 am

Suck my

On December 3, 2011 at 3:26 pm

When doing the sneak cheat (when leveling up just your sneak) if you are at a low level, you cant fully run and not be spotted, take off your armor and you can go to full run. the best place to do this is the Arintio house in windhelm bc you cant be hurt or attacked. just make sure your in and area that you cannot be spotted. It will take a while but it works. oh by the way if you dont want to hold it the whole time use tape.

On December 5, 2011 at 10:56 am

ok, so i bought the game, played through it, and just wanted to know how to level up easier then just randomly hoping to need the skill and increase over time…but quite honestly you all sound like a bunch of no lifers, like the people that want to level are arguing with the people who think its better to just play the game…how about you all get out of your moms basement, and quit arguing over the internet about a video game to people you dont know and will never meet…just saying its like being the only retard that can color inside the lines…at the end of the day your still a retard. but i have enjoyed everyones crying…seems like a mini facebook on here

The One

On December 8, 2011 at 10:24 pm

Skyrim reminds me of a book I read. It’s called Sinexia The Mark of Perillius. Check it out. you can also level up by maxing out your speechcraft but talking to that dude in Riften (helga’s bunkhouse) I forget his name. just google it! Also, I hate that I cant slut around the way I can on Fable.

On December 10, 2011 at 3:34 pm

List of all skyrim glitches

On December 14, 2011 at 8:22 am

Hey, this game is too damn big to get even 10 percent done without maxing out, and when that happens the few traits that level slowly that r never used almost require glitches to regain a formidable chance against leveled opponents. I am already at level 50 and my combat ratings are still under 50…. so the only way to not get m y ass kicked every time I flight a decent opponent is to glitch up . or send in my housekeeper and watch her ass get beaten.
everybody that is offended by other players cheating you are being a nerd by caring so much about how other people play their video game and the fact that they don’t play their video game in such a serious manner as you do – you might want to play games quite a bit less, as you are making your point, no matter how valid it may be, something that nobody wants to hear and irrelevant due to the pathetic nature of your own video gaming obsession over its ethics…
and whoever said that modern warfare 3 what is a let down I’m glad I didn’t buy it because black ops was crap their games have been crap ever since the first modern warfare since they pretty much keep everything exactly the same and never add anything else to it worth buying a new game. Modern warfare 1 could be every game since with a simple add on of guns perks and maps or other equipment…

im just sayin

On December 14, 2011 at 1:25 pm

why do you guys waste time arguing like a bunch of little girls?

your mother

On December 16, 2011 at 1:58 am

instead of fighting about cheats/glitches and saying that your going to finish the game first stop fighting and get the back on skyrim

On December 16, 2011 at 5:21 am

Instead of fighting in Riverwood, you can level one-handed and destruction all the way by following the imperial in Helgen. Don’t pick up the armor from the chest and attack him.

On December 22, 2011 at 8:40 pm

I feel bad for all of the lowlife gots that look for cheats because they arent good enough to play the game the right way. Im lvl 48, done main quest, done all factions and killed 79 dragons on expert mode ALL WITHOUT CHEATING. Cheating is very unnessicary unless you are one of the people with no lives that sit on the computer crying “help me! help me!, im not good enough to play the game on easy mode.” You also probably have to look on the computer to solve simple puzzles along with cheating

On December 23, 2011 at 6:12 pm

On December 27, 2011 at 9:40 am

Being a high level doesn’t make the game way easier, the enemys get more difficult as you level up to prevent that. It only makes the fights/game more fun, because you have more perks to play around with, and more magicka so you can do cooler spells, and not run outta magic in 5 seconds. I barely even did any of the main quest till i was a higher level, cuz it would have been a waste, playing through it without all the fun perks,(Choose your perks wisely!!! Can’t have them all) level up block by blocking a giant and healing yourself, or armor by taking a beating and not blocking. Archery by shooting a single mammoth, then heal it and shoot again

On December 27, 2011 at 10:00 am

Im soooo pissed that you can’t get more perks, what’s so great about all merchants getting 1000 gold if you can’t absorb 30% of magicka cast at you, since they did it the way they did (having to get the lower perks that connect to the high ones, before you can get it.) So i have to waste a perk point on some useless lower perk i don’t even want, to get a good one, they made it so no matter how good you do, you can’t get the best outta every skill. Stupid that only thing that gives you level experience is skill improvement, they could have at least just made leveling extremely slow after 81, and have you receive small amount of experience for each enemy you slay, or quest completed or something. Still so many perks I’ll never be able to get. I want all the power attacks, i wanna be able to rush and bash with my shield, i wanna draw my bow quicker.

Can’t believe they actually made this game with such a horrible flaw, don’t get me wrong its alright but it could have been so
much better so easily,… I mean come on… I thought this game was supposed to be top notch

On December 27, 2011 at 10:08 am

Another thing that would improve the game is not having only one favorite list, but a list for each direction on the directional pad, even having just 3 favorite lists would be enough, (don’t like having to scroll through my whole favorite list to get specific spell, or a set of apparel i want to switch to. I have different groups of apparel that i wear depending upon if im being an archer, using magic, or using swords, i would like specific favorite groups, i wouldn’t have to waist so much Fricken time, going through my inventory

On December 27, 2011 at 10:13 am

Giant attacks are pretty easy to dodge just run towards them they Will start their swing but you Will already be passed them.

I feel guilty…im ruining lives… Why am i giving so many arrows to their knees

On December 27, 2011 at 10:19 am

Level up speech craft by getting a very small bounty (steal an ingredient) then just talk to every guard and use persuasion can’t use it on the same guard right after, but do a quest or 2 and when you come back you can repeat it

its not glitching its training you lametards

On December 27, 2011 at 10:22 am

Lead a mammoth into a grouping of tight trees, it might run outta space, and end up standing on the top of a tree

On December 28, 2011 at 7:31 pm

First, why all the hate on the community? Second, why the superiority complex with this childish “Cheats are better. No, playing it through is better.” Nonsense. Don’t you people have anything more pressing to worry about than something that doesn’t affect you in the least bit? Live and let live people and grow up!

On January 3, 2012 at 6:38 pm

Lol, I think it’s very sad for the people who say ”Save it for the second sequence for when your done the game. If you did not know, there’s 5,000 hours of game time put into Skyrim. I’m sorry, but no one and I mean NO ONE
wants to spend 3 years until they can start cheating. So, ”Getcha Head in the Game!” Literally. Learn more about the damn game you play.

On January 5, 2012 at 2:06 pm

Don’t punch a chicken in river wood. I got a 5 gold bounty everyone in the town including guards attacking me and no chance to yield. They must really love that chicken

On January 5, 2012 at 6:37 pm

The game perceived a chicken in riverwood as my enemy, i couldn’t wait anywhere near it. Until i stealthily assassinated it, then i was able to wait anywhere

On January 5, 2012 at 6:42 pm

Only the 1 chicken tho, the other one didn’t have a beef with me.

My character is completely maxed out at 81.5! And there were still more perks i wanted! !! At least one! Geez level should round up after you get everything to 100.
And i didn’t do any glitching, only training

On January 10, 2012 at 3:49 pm

i believe that if you try hard enough you can breeze through the story. but if people want to level up and make the game easier for themselves let them.. opinions are like s everyone has one

On January 10, 2012 at 4:17 pm

wich magic spells can i use

On January 10, 2012 at 6:57 pm

OK, so all of this isnt good. the easier version of this is when you can go to either Raolf or Hadvar. Either one you chose, youll end up with haveing the choice to level up your char.

Hadvar is the easiest:

1-handed: get weapon off from far wall opposite from the entrance and hit hadvar until you level up. (note: dont hit him while he’s down, it wont do anything to your level)

Sneak: press button for sneak (crouch button) hit hadvar at 8 sec. (EXACTLY) intervals until lev. 35-40 of sneak. after that, hit him at 6-7 intervals or more.
****NOTE: make sure you get a critical hit (sneak damg 3.0X up top(or more))

Magic: well, just equip fire (defult destruction magic) and hit him with it
(note: this takes the longest

When done, go to the chest.

On January 14, 2012 at 5:22 am

Oh and btw to all those gamers who need to level up easily, I have a tip for you !!!!
Go to every blacksmith in skyrim and buy every iron ingot and every set of leather strips, then go to whiterun (best forge in game) smith heaps of iron daggers, as your skill increases get all relevant perks until you reach 100 smithing and every smithing perk available. This allows you to make armor, great armor ( my armour rating is somewhere about 525) I personally like daedric armour.

*possible spoiler* when in Alftland when retrieving the elder scroll there is about 2-3 smithing potions that increase smithing abilities by 40%

Good luck !!!!

On January 20, 2012 at 11:31 am

Way to presume that everyone on this thread is on their first playthrough… you know what they say about presuming, you make a “pres” out of “u” and “me”. On a more serious note, you obviously have no intent on using any of the information here. So, with that being said, mind your own ing business, jackass.

On January 24, 2012 at 9:41 pm

there are 3 rules in ranged warfare, “guns” for anyone thats not smart. rule 1 never get seen, rule 2 never get heard, rule 3 if you break 1,or 2 i’ll come kill and you have no way pf stoping me, have a nice death

On January 24, 2012 at 9:45 pm

camping is part of ranged warfare, people that past comment like, i hate campers, well people such as this are loosers, if your not a camper what are you? you got to be a dumbie, because a person with a brain will never run out into a fire fight and pertend the bullets are flowers. for real people,

On January 29, 2012 at 12:22 pm

I think it’s hilarious how some people are getting so butthurt over a glitch. Some people (such as myself) don’t have weeks upon weeks to throw at games. We’re busy with our careers, family, paying bills, etc. So if I find a glitch that can be exploited to make my gameplay easier, then I’m going to take advantage of it.

People love to hate if you have different views, if your from different towns or states, if you have a different heritage and background. People hate americans because of our leaders and representatives such as those characters on jersey shore or those bull caca housewives’ shows. Everything could be so simple. Its all about perception and choice. Everyone should know how to fight. Nobody should have to fight. Hate is a waste of energy.Focus your energy on saving ourselves instead of destroying eachother and feeding the darkness.

On February 9, 2012 at 1:44 pm

I agree on all points I play fairly I don’t believe in using cheats or glitches all the time but if you’ve been fighting the same bloody thing for 3 days and dying all the time then it’s time to break out the cheats I’ve never cheated with Skyrim I only came on here as a last resort coz vampirism was driving me nuts for those of stuck with that if you want a free feed hlaalu farm south east of windhem is a good bet but only at night tho you can feed there and go to morthal and get the cure just about in time and it does work as I’ve just this second done it :-)

Speech to lvl100 by going to Riften and going to black briar meadry and talk to guy at counter and pick second option then first option and just keep doing that

On March 5, 2012 at 12:11 pm

I exploit the oghma infinium glitch to max level. From start of the game till max level up was about 6 hours if I did not do other stupid stuff.

Just do the ‘Discerning the transmundane’ mission and make sure you are level 15 and have the house in whiterun with a bookshelf. Once you get the oghma infinium do the glitch and violĂ ! max level in about 45 mins.

I actually did this as a blueprint to play the game using different builds rather than start from scratch and waste hours on end to build again. My only qualm is that I am stuck with using an old Breton XD

On March 9, 2012 at 2:20 pm

Roger that is exactly what I’m doing now. I’ve got about 230hrs on my “legit” character (lvl 63) but I wanted to try out new builds. But there’s no way in hell I’m going to spend another 200+ hours on a new character. The Oghma glitch is my friend! I love it. Only problem is you need to be lvl15 or higher before you even start it or the whole quest could bug.

And just to be clear, even with a maxed out character at lvl 81.5 when you put the game on Master there is still a chance for you to die.

Took me around 7 hours to complete every quest and then a few hours to finish the misc. quest. Then about 3 more hours to max out my skills to 100. Took an hour to down load hearthfire and 2 hours to build all three houses. (Had over 100,000 septiums so i was able to buy everything easily) took an hour to download dragonborn . And it only took me 2 – 3 hours to fully complete it 100% and then download dawn guard and 6 hours later I’ve completed vampire quest line and most of dawn guard quest line ill finish it tomorrow . I used no cheats glitches mods. When I complete dawn guard ill play through again and try it with the glitches and cheats.

It isn’t cheating it is using the game to your full advantage. But hey some people like playing the game that way either way it is their game and their money if they want to do it that way who cares. I do it at least now I have already beat the game like 3 times now I am just trying to get max level and trying to complete every single quest.

for anyone who can’t seem to get it to work, please don’t blame the glitch itself… just the idiot who wrote the wrong information. this will work for either Hadvar OR Ralof, the second you ener Fort Helgen until you escape through the cave. once “Completed: Unbound” rolls across the screen, they are no longer safe from death, and they WILL retaliate if you hit them.

I advise that if you’re gonna do it, then it should be done immediately after Hadvar/Ralof gets you into the Keep. this is the best chance youll have to max out One-Handed, Sneak and Destruction, but it will take freaking forever.
