NPCs Available for Marriage

Marriage Starter’s Guide

  • UPDATE: Addfac ###### 1 – ON PC VERSIONS OF SKYRIM – Press the tilde (`) key to bring down the command console, and type in the code “addfac 19809 1″ (Not including the apostrophes.) with the desired NPC selected, and you’ll be able to marry them. No fuss! They’ll be added to your marriage faction.
    1. To get married, you’ll first need the Amulet of Mara. While wearing this jewelry, you will unlock new dialogue options with certain NPCs.
    2. Buy the amulet from Maramal, sold for 200 coins. Maramal can be found in Riften, either in the Temple of Mara or in the Bee and Barb.
    3. The amulet can also be found in a chest at the beginning of Bleak Falls Barrow — a main quest.
    4. To get married, you must first speak with an NPC and talk to them about marriage. They might accept, or require a small quest to be completed. If your Speech skill is high, you can attempt to raise their disposition to you, or bribe them.
    5. If they do accept, speak to Maramal at the Temple of Mara to plan the wedding.
    6. A married NPC will move into whatever house you own and provide several benefits.
    7. Your spouse will cook one meal a day, which raises your health and stamina. Your spouse will also follow you as a companion if requested, defending you or attacking enemies on your orders. They will also carry some of your equipment for you.
    8. Spouses will sometimes give you gifts.

After you’re married, you should probably be looking for a house to buy. You might also want to look into curing that whole werewolf thing. On second thought, you might want to cure that beforehand.

How the hell do you marry Lydia? Does it appear later in the main quest or something her marriage option? Cause i got the Whiterun house + Amulet of Mara.

I’m either interested in her or Aela (huntress from companions), but i like Lydia more, she’s better fitted for my “ultimate-firstplaythrough-good guy”.

Or better yet, are there hotter/better chicks then Lydia for a good-guy walkthrough.

    Chicks i already confirmed are 100% marriagable=

    Jenessa (merc in whiterun)
    Temba Wide-Arm (Ivarstead)
    Camilla Valerius (Riverwood)
    Uthgerd (whiterun)

Checking right now -> Aela (joined the companions)
Jordis the swordmaiden (doing quests for the jarl of Solitude, the widow of the murdered king of Skyrim)

So far the only attractive one I found was Muiri. I’m pretty upset with the selection, there mostly not very attractive and the selection is limited. No khajiit or wood elves was a really bad decision. I can marry an ugly orc or a lizard but not a cat woman or little elf? Bethesda!!!!! I should have seen it coming. I also can’t find a few of the women on the list including Uthgerd who never seems to return to her house.

    Hazlitthefire

    On November 13, 2011 at 2:02 pm

Yeah you guys think the chicks are unattractive? Try finding a good looking male. That’s way harder. Us girl-gamer minorities are s.o.l when it comes to finding an attractive husband. Think about that next time you complain about how all the chick characters are ugly.

    Rena

    On November 13, 2011 at 2:39 pm

I agree with Hazlitthefire!!! The guys I’d like to marry I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to. And most the guys ARE ugly with the women your just being picky. Like Brynjolf. I’m feelin him but pretty sure its never gonna happen :(

    Gnosisofthought

    On November 13, 2011 at 3:16 pm

Well I agree there all pretty ugly for the most part. What bothers me is how there are perfectly attractive characters in the game with no essential role and yet you can’t marry them. It’s like they went out of there way to make sure we are unpleased with the selection. I know bethesda was never good at making cool companions but come on.

Farkis is the only attractive male marriage option i’ve encountered so far. But i can’t get him to marry me for the life of me. I’ve done his little side missions 6 or 7 times, i’m thinking i may have to go further in the companions chain to get him to love me. (i’m on the quest to go kill the grey witches).

The prettiest one I’ve found is Ysolda. But I really wanted a warrior, wild girl, like Lydia. Not a merchant girl that may become fat and flacid in the future. Lydia or Aela are pretty much guaranteed to stay fit and good looking forever because of their warrior nature. Or can get a premature death, but that’s hard when they are nearly immortal.

Brynjolf! I agree I would marry hiim in a second if I could. He’s got that mysterious thing going on. Srsly though if Brynjolf is unavailable and Farkas ends up dieing I’ll probably just end up marrying a girl because I can’t find any other interesting male characters to wed. :p

Farkas doesn’t die during the Companions quests. He survives and you can marry him once you’ve completed all the Companions main quests – help Aela The Huntress to move the Companions quests forward.

    Spoilers follow:

The Leader of the Companions ends up dead, as well as the Companion who hangs around Aela. I can’t remember his name, but I’m fairly certain it started with S. But Vilkas and Farkas definately survive.

I finally make it into the Thieves Guild and there she was. Vex…offsetting the makeshift underground bar caked with centuries of sewer filth with her skin-tight armor and radiant blonde hair. Our eyes met, and I was paralyzed with the thought of taking her home to act out volume 2 of “The Lusty Argonian Maid”.

I cried for 14 hours and jumped off of the Dragonsreach tower after seeing this list.

…In all seriousness, I think our characters have enough stress in their lives already. Lydia is just my pack mule

if only you could marry sapphire ( hottest in the game) she’s in Riften either in Bee and Barb or Ragged flagon or even Vex in the Ragged Flaggon. Btw you need to be in the thieves guild to visit Ragged Flaggon or at least start the quest

    TheSkinHorse

    On November 14, 2011 at 11:42 am

In order to marry any of the Companions, you have to finish their quest in which (to complete what one of the individuals above mentioned) Skjor and Kodlak die. As soon as you free Kodlak’s soul, the Companions are open to marriage.

I tried Lydia, but there’s apparently a glitch with her. So I went with Aela the Huntress – how is she NOT attractive?! She’s the hottest in the game. And she makes me 100 gold a day. And kills things when I ask. And still gives me quests. Wives are niceee.

I’m a female Khajiit. I’ve tired to accomplish tasks/quests with several of the females eligible for marriage (I am wearing the damned amulet) but I don’t get any dialogue options for marriage. I can’t get Muiri to even talk to me! LOL :-D

    Hedgewiz

    On November 15, 2011 at 4:45 am

@Sad Panda Clearly Lydia is one of the best choices for marriage. She IS hot – visually and verbally – and you can marry her. I also wanna marry her – very, very much so x.x. Oddly enough, Aela the Huntress is second on my list, much like other people.

Lydia is a Housecarl. Every Housecarl is marriable, Lydia just so happens to be bugged. I have the Official guide (though it doesn’t mention bugs).

Aela comes up to you after a fight with a Giant, offering you to try joining the Companions. She is also the quest giver for the quest that lets you contract Lycantrophy (Companions quest line). And since I wanna be a werewolf for the rest of the game after, I really want to marry her in replace of Lydia.

Not one! Not one single khajiit female that you can marry! I wanted to see my little tiger cub! now I cant unless I want to make a female khajiit now! Come on Bethesda, there cant be at least one? Im thinking that either they dont like the way that the khajiits turned out (wood elves too, but I would rather have a khajiit), or they just hate cats.

Lisette the bard in Solitude is my favorite but not available … boo. My main character married Aela the Huntress and we live together in my Whiterun home.

My other character married Sylgja – Nord, found in Shor’s Stone. I felt sorry for Sylgja as she is cute-ish, young, and poor and was injured in a mining accident. But now she still walks around the house in her filthy clothes with a ming pick on her hip… sheesh.

Marriage would have been an interesting part of this game if the companions had more personality than a rock.

I thought Bethesda took a nice step forward in New Vegas with companions; they were well-acted, had reasonably long personal quest chains, a fair amount of commentary to make, and would say something to you every once in a while when just walking around. I had hoped that they’d build on that, so that this TES game wouldn’t feel as soulless as Oblivion was. Sadly, they did not, and as a result your followers (a better word for them than companions) don’t ever feel like anything more than fancy mannequins

I’m not sure how one could ever get attached enough to one of them to WANT to marry one for any reason other than gits and shiggles. It’d be like marrying a biped-shaped backpack.

    On November 15, 2011 at 3:06 pm

For people having problems of dialogue options not showing: make sure you have talked to the priest in Temple of Mara, and that he has explained to you how marriage in Skyrim works. After that the dialogue options should be available when wearing the amulet (some restrictions might apply, like finishing the Companion quests before any of them are available)

I spent the longest time, wondering if my amulet is a wrong kind, before I went to the temple, got the story from the priest and boom! People wanting to marry me everywhere! It seems most companions in Skyrim are into kitties. And some seem to be desperate, wanting to marry a random Khajiit they’ve only talked to once (I’m talking to you, Tolvar!) xD

    Blaidd

    On November 15, 2011 at 3:11 pm

@Jason: It was not Bethesda who was responsible for that step forward in New Vegas. Bethesda provided the engine, ressources, tech, that sort of things. But the story and character building was by some of the guys who worked on the earlier Fallout games.

Bethesda is great at graphics and providing that big huge sandbox to work with. But they sadly miss out both in terms of story and strong characters.

Wow, really people? This isn’t Fable or something, aging does not happen in the elder scrolls, so kids would be impossible. I’m actually very glad they left the possibility of child raising out, that’d be stupid. It’s an RPG, but not meant for people to take playing roles so strictly.

“Addfac 1 – Adds the selected NPC to a faction (e.g. “addfac 19809 1″ adds an NPC to the marriage-faction, allowing players to marry this NPC)”

All is good in the world.

I hooked up with Sylgja from Shor’s Stone. Cute little brunette with a sweet voice and an awesome body. Too bad she always wears the Miner’s Clothes.

It suprised me that she was interested in me, since I’m a skinny green and red Argonian.

So. Apparently, Bethesda thinks it’s icky for us to want to marry Redguards, Khajiits, or Argonians.
One male and one female Argonian, one female Redguard, and NO Khajiits! That’s Racist! WTH? Screw it I married Ysolda, she’s down with the furries, she gives me money and she cooks. WTFE Bethesda.

To marry the priestess in the temple of dibella (senna, orla and anwen) , you have to lockpick the inside door of the temple, then walk in and interrupt their ceremony, they will give you a quest to apologize and once you finish it, they will be available for marriage.

So I finally get around to looking into the marriage thing and when I started playing I made some mental notes of possible candidates in my travels. I go get the amulet and so far every female I picked out isn’t available, total bummer Bethesda. Among the top ones was ophiela Gray-mane, and the inn keepers daughter in the dwarven city. Neither seem to be Npcs of any significance at all and they don’t seem to be spoken for. That being said we do have to give it some time. Elder scrolls is notorious for being rather buggy and skyrim has been the least buggy of the elder scrolls series. I’m sure there going to be patches that will give more marriage options eventually but the games only been out for like a week.

No sex, no romance, no kissing, no hugging, no nothing. Your partner will however make food for you, and act as just a mercenary and not as a wife or husband. I felt a little down about the romance/marriage aspect of the game. Other than that Skyrim was great hands-down.

For real it’s stupid there is like a list of 20 people you select from and it’s pretty much “wanna get married?” “ok.” THE END. I wanted to marry karliah. Cute dark elf with common interests. We both are in the thieves guild, we are both nightingales. We like takin stuff and stealing things and have been on many adventures together. But nope. I can only choose from a preset list of random bar maids that my character has 0 emotional connection with. Weak, Bethesda. Real weak.

In fact, I busted my ass for HOURS searching for Moonstone to make and fully upgrade her some Elven Armor, and making myself Dwarven armor so they’d match and I’d be wearing Heavy Armor and she’d be wearing Light armor – of course not check first if she could actually travel with me. Apparently,, she can’t. :’( Truly one of the saddest things to happen to me in this game, and I’m honestly thinking about just starting a new character b/c my WHOLE game plan involved adventuring with my matching-armored wife.

Did you read what I posted earlier, all you can do is marry a npc of your choice and the only option available after marriage is for them to make you food. No you can’t have sex with them, no you can’t kiss them, and no you cannot romance your partner regardless if your at your home or not. Bethesda butchered the relationship aspect of the game, so all you can do is use your imagination and pretend which I don’t have a good make-belief so I don’t even bother with marrying any npc in Skyrim.

so far from a role playing standpoint Aela is the only choice that makes some sort of sense as to why your getting married. If you do the companions questline you travel with her and if you chose to become a werewolf you drank her blood. I don’t think theres any other options out there that you actually have some sort of backround with for a reason you would get married. Ysolda for example ….zomg you got a mammoth tusk for me….we should get married -_- only other one I could see reasoning behind is Carlotta who has a kid and gets pestered by other men all the time but she would just be marrying you so other guys would stop asking…and she has baggage.

I went with Senna. All the romantic talk she gave me after the first encounter with her. Plus she has a nice face.

However it does not really fell like a marriage. More of a chick I picked up to watch after the house and store. I mean really the only interactions I have with her, are the 3 orginal ones before I married her, Plus the give me 100 coin for tending the store, and cook me some food.

I guess games like The Witcher and Dragon Age have spoiled us in this department. Its kinda funny really. there are so many interactions with so many differnt NPC’s. Many of them more original. But for these main characters that you deal with all the time, practicaly no interaction. I mean really, I have more of an interaction with a city guard then Lydia. I really wish Lydia would mention stuff about whats going on around us ingame. This is where Dragon age really spoiled us. When your companions would go off on some random conversation in your travels.

It’s a descent first step for Bethesda. But they should really try to model the companion/marriage system after Bioware’s Dragon Age: Origins and Knights of the Old Republic series. The Mass Effect series handle’s romance/companions very well too.

    Insignificant

    On November 20, 2011 at 3:26 pm

I don’t think the marriage aspect should’ve been included unless you could interact with your spouse more as many people have said. One of my favorite things about Elder Scrolls games is the dialogue – I like hearing about Calcemo go on about Dwemer ruins and I often go out of my way to converse with random npcs in hopes a conversation will pop up. Which is one of the reasons I love Mass Effect.
So it really disappoints me that once you get married your spouse is like a talking oven; just cooking and giving you gold. I also wish more of the “eligible” characters had a story that would give you more reason to marry.

I say any of the companions make sense because you spend a lot of time together and save each other’s hides here and there. But why can’t you marry Hadvar? It’d make sense if the Dragonborn did since if you so chose he’s the one to save you in the beginning and ensures you have proper gear for your first trek to Whiterun and later he seems overjoyed to see you at Korvunjund. There should also be Bosmer and Khajiit you can marry it’d only be fair.

Over all though, Skyrim is excellent and this certainly doesn’t ruin it I just hope they read the feedback on the marriage aspect and tweak it for the next installment.

    Elochai

    On November 21, 2011 at 3:38 am

You can marry whichever non-essential npc you want by going on consol and target the npc, then write “addfac 19809 1″.
This will give you max disposition with the npc(which makes him like you) and if you carry the amulet of mara, gives you the option of marriage. This works with most of the non-essential npc’s, though i’ve encountered npc’s which it has not worked with and some npc’s that after doing a small quest with them gives you the option of marriage after using this code. I am currently married to Annekke in darkwater crossing (not on the marriage list btw). ENJOY!

Marriage to all the popular npc’s with the console code “addfac 19809 1″
may also require an additional code of “setrelationshiprank player 4″ to raise their deposition towards you before the marriage option will appear.
Don’t forget to equip the Amulet of Mara also etc etc

For many of the npc’s you can also force the option of following you to appear with “addtofaction 5c84d 1″
Remember also to raise their deposition as needed etc etc

If you are like me and want to marry Lydia, theres a glitch according to the wiki where no matter what you do you cannot marry her.

Unless you are on pc in that case it can be bypassed by using the console, clicking on her then typing Addtofaction 19809 1. Then talking to her with the Amulet of Mara equipped.

in the meantime i suggest you wait for a patch.

Looks-wise the choices are better for people who want to marry a female. The men are mostly old and/or hideous. One of them looked like Riff Raff from Rocky Horror. I chose Vorstag who seemed the best of a bad bunch.

The creepiest thing of all is that Lydia still hangs around in the bedroom all the time, and I inadvertently created a character who looks like her twin sister.

For those that wanted to know: there is no divorce in the game and if you kill your spouse, you won’t be allowed to get re married. My suggestion is to take them out with you and let them get killed (but you can’t help with them dying other than just letting it happen)

Everyone trying to find an eligible bachelor in this game, I sympathise. It became so much trouble (and I got temporarily bored of smiting undead) that I decided to compile a comprehensive list of romance options in Skyrim. It’s not finished yet but I have found nearly all of the marriageable men at this point and well, the future’s not very bright. My personal recommendation based purely on aesthetics is to purchase Vlindrel Hall in Markarth & become Thane where your lovely housecarl will be Argis the Bulwark. If you don’t mind your men a bit scarred (shame about the eye) and kind of stoic (nice voice though) then I’d say he’s the best so far. Also, besides “Love” he also calls you “My Thane” which certainly doesn’t hurt ;P
Interesting note: Most romantic/poetic proposition I have received (not that that takes a huge amount in this game) was from an ORC in a mining village just outside Markarth who uttered at least 2 full sentences on how my qualities made me attractive as a marriage partner.
Seriously Bethesda, would it have hurt to put a little more effort into this? This whole side of the game feels rushed and emotionless like it was written by a gang of giggling schoolboys who didn’t want to appear sappy in front of their peers. In fact I know schoolboys who could have made it less shallow and meaningless and they would have probably used the word ‘willy’ more than once.
Acts together please! We like our characters to be attractive, sensual and have development and depth. Demanding I know…

So hopefully things like not being able to marry lydia will be fixed alongside the graphics when you install the game on xbox.

    Answerer 1
If you own a PC, you CAN get remarried. Other systems cannot.

    A) No courier will come to you and say you can remarry. Doesn’t work.
    B) Marriage is a QUEST. Adding npcs to the faction 19809 through console does not work either!
Here is how you REALLY do it:
Open the console using the tilde (~) button. Type in “resetquest RelationshipMarriage”. Hit enter. Now, drop your amulet of mara or sell it. Now open console again and type “SetStage RelationshipMarriage 10″. Go back to Riften and talk to the guy at the Temple of Mara. He will start you at the buy amulet section and let you buy a new amulet. You can now marry again.

I don’t take credit for this, I found it on yahoo answers. It does work

Theres this one girl in some town. Anyways she is by far the hottest girl in the game. She wears a revealing green dress and im pretty sure ive seen her in multple cities around Skyrim. And you cant marry her, but you will know who im talking about if you see her.

Anyways we all know Ysolda is the best. She reminds me of Leliana from Dragon Age. They should of just brought her to Skyrim

I have the most massive crush on Ralof. Why, Bethesda? WHY?!

And I really want a patch to fix this because I would feel bad if I did the console cheat xD Bioware has spoiled me for in-game romance, though.

The most attractive by far is Muiri, however not being able to drag her around a companion is a bummer. On the other side, marrying a battle-tank She-Man is also not very appealing. So what I did, married the normal non-following woman and put her in her place in front of the stove and in bed. I then took the she-man as a companion and put her in her place, carrying my burdens and following my every command ;) .

My very first marriage option for myself was Olfina Gray-Mane in Whiterun, unfortunanently there are 0 dialogue options :/. I did everything to make her like me! I helped all the people of her town, Whiterun. I fought for the Stormcloaks, the side she and her family supports in the war, made the Stormcloaks rule in Whiterun. Made her father Jarl! Became his thane! Which made her get some place in the castle aswell. I even rescued her brother all the way in the North-West from a keep! Still, I can’t marry her! (I got the Amulet of Mara and talked with the priest and all that, yeahh). So THEN I found out that she and Jon Battle-Born are secretly lovers! SO I cut Jon Battle-Born’s throat while he was sleeping in the middle of the night (there were no witnesses) waited some time for everyone to get over it and STILL I CAN’T MARRY OLFINA GRAY-MANE! :( , + In the patch/dlc they should really really improve marriage a whole lot. all the other stuff we need some dephth in the game, or however to put it :|

For anyone that’s unsatisfied with Sylgia’s miner’s clothes, a master of pickpocket can pickpocket someone’s clothes off (which makes no sense. I mean, I know you’re THE master of pickpocketing but c’mon, how can you pull that off without the person noticing? XD I’m not sure if it’ll work on Sylgia, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t). I haven’t tried pickpocketing clothes ONTO a person yet, but it might work. Hell, just give it a shot, and worse comes to worst, you have a half-naked wife walking around your house ;D

And my only real complaint is that my cute little cat girl can’t marry a single Khajiit, male or female. I was kinda hoping she could marry J’sargo (or whatever his name is, the khajiit in the mages guild), but alas, she’s either going to stay single or she’ll have to wait for the patch.

PS. A few things about pickpocket, for those that don’t use it and don’t know about it. 1) It’s easy as hell to get up, 2) For anyone that wants more carrying weight and doesn’t want to get up fatigue (like me), pickpocketing has a perk that gives you 100 extra carrying lbs, and 3) I find it to be fairly useful. If nothing else, it makes for very fast level ups.

Um, I find a ton of the women in this game to be really attractive, mostly because they are so freaking hard core. Mjoll the Lioness and Aela are awesome. I am a female gamer so I obviously have different tastes then you male gamers. Still, I say you got the better end of the deal. If I were to pick a male companion to marry, I’d be stuck with absolute CRAP choices. Mostly I’m just pissed that I can’t marry Faendal. He’s been such a distraction for me. I just LOVE him. I go hang out at his house and lose precious killing time, just cuz he’s got the sweetest voice. “Hello sister elf, so nice to see a friendly face…” AW. *sigh* So, if I can’t have him, I will marry Mjoll the Lioness and her and I will go on a killing spree, freaking bashing in the faces of every man in Skyrim, just because we can and we should. Hopefully their blood will be a balm for my ravaged and broken heart. No Faendal = angry pissed off love sick evil dark elf on a rampage. If you’re gonna give us choices, give us real choices Bethesda. NOT Benor. I mean come on, BENOR!?!?!, I killed him myself he was so freaking annoying. :-/ Where are the sweet nice guys (or should I say where are all the non-dark elves) like Faendal in this husband selection? I’m so angry now. It’s time for everyone in Skyrim to die. But elves are safe from my fury cuz elves are lovely. So why can’t I marry one???? (And no I don’t want a dark elf – we have bad attitudes, who needs that in a husband?) ;-)

Not too sure if anyone mentioned this, but the reason you cannot marry wood elves, or khajiit is due to the fact that they are of a different religion than the divines… I find this odd too, but that’s how it works.

Skyrim’s characters are an improvement over the hideous, flat, cardboard, passionless, drones of Oblivion but not in a huge way. At least they can be called characters though. They ought to make relationships to characters (be it romantic or friendly) a bigger part of the game, like in Mass Effect. Strong characters are the main thing that gets us emotionally invested in stories.

I married Jenassa. We were riding together. She thought we were like-kind, stealing stuff, sneaking in caves, killing Thalmor who crossed our path. Killing more Thalmor who tried to avenge the last Thalmor. Poor b-stards; vicious cycle. She liked the fire in my eye. One day I put on this necklace and she commented on it. I asked her, what’s up? I gave her a lunar sword as a wedding gift — it burns at night — good for killing Thalmor. Now she cooks me stuff, calls me her love, keeps giving me money — and she sold that sword I gave her — cut me deep. I’m pretty sure she has orgies with the housecarts when I’m away.

I’m sure one of the first mods to come out once the SDK is released will be a “make everyone who isn’t already married able to be married” mod. It would take all of an hour to make if the new editor is anything like the GECK.

I’m sure soon to follow would be a “make all girls look hotter” mod as well. The pattern is always the same every Bethesda game.

Of course, only PC players will be able to take advantage of the truck-ton of player made mods that are sure to come out for this game. Sorry console players, but for Bethesda releases you REALLY, and I mean REALLY want to get the PC version next time because the modding scene is insane! Just type in “Oblivion Mods”, or “Fallout Mods” into Google and see what I mean. :)

I think Onmund the mage, or Argis the Bulwark are the best male candidates =p I want either smart or rich haha. I like how in Fable you can marry almost any of the npc’s as long as you’re of they’re required sex. It feels more real. And yeah most of these dudes are ugly.

After much deliberation I came to the conclusion that I had to choose between Farkas and Vilkas for a potential husband… Even then ended up having to make two characters just because those twins are so awesome. Though the one I reeally wanted to marry was Ulfric, ass or not, he’s so hot, it’s that voice of his.

@andrew well when you married her did you have a house. Once you marry her she does just. Leave abruptly so you have to catch her to move in together. She probably will end up in the companions building or your house eventually because she needs to walk from fifteen all the way to whiterun which could take some time. Alternately you can use the console ‘.moveto player’ .

I’ve read woman are complaining too so there is no excuse I mean your saving their frickin world you deserve hotness!

    Muzolf

    On December 8, 2011 at 3:08 am

LOL. Reading these comments was more fun then most dungeon picks in Skyrim. (Those got old fast after starting my second character)
At first i was pissed when it turned out my Khajiit female assasin could not marry her follower. (Got that medal for the scraggy looking khajiit guard) But then i read these comments and meh, relationships are really unpolished, or rather not done at all in Skyrim. At least Ahnassi (Or whats her name) gave quests to her “special friend” in morrowind.

The reactions are quite funny. There is a lot of written lore, and stories of the quests in this game, but hey, it is not a life simulator. …yet.
Maybe if we got TES the mmorpg, but i dread the day when griefers, powergamers, lolcats and dumb teenagers become the primary inhabitants of tamriel, and quests become “kill 20 frost atronarchs”

But if we are dwelving deeper into the whol relationships and marriage, why not go fll way? You spouse belittering you for dissappearing for several days. Exotic std-s from interspecies marriages. “sorry dear, you might wanna visit the temple, i think i gave you vampirism\lychantropy”. And the classic. “This isnt what it looks like, J’barro was just umm.. showing me how a new bedsheet made out of sabrce cat fur would feel like.”

I’ve been playing for about a week and since then, I’ve neglected my kids and my BF!! I want to marry my gorgeous, ass-kicking, bloodlusting, werewolf/dark elf off to a proper man and I have my eyes set on Farkas, the kick ass, hot blooded, werewolf. After seeing him shift and rip apart the Silver Hand’s and then give that sweet, heartfelt speech in my honor, I was smitten!!! Or maybe I will marry his twin Vilkas since he will cook me dinner AND give me money!!! Decisions, decisions.

He is an imperial like me and has that beautiful olive skin and striking eyes so go check him out.
Also if you marry him he sets up a store at home and shares the profit with you u so not only does he cook but he gives you money too >:) seriously though, y would u leave him at home???? I bring him on every adventure!!! <3 <3 <3

I gave up on going to marry the selected npc’s from the list. They seem too old or ugly besides a few, instead I forced marriaged an imperial guard. He’s extremely gorgeous and hot, now why couldn’t they put him in the marriage quest for npcs :) . I think the imperial guard is bugged because, you can’t really force marriage them, or set relationshiprank to make them fall in love really. He also has some dialogue with him and he spoke about a place I visited near Windhelm. Anyways I take my cute imperial guard everywhere with me. BTW I found him close by the Guard Tower, west of Whiterun.

    Cyanide

    On December 13, 2011 at 1:28 am

I’m actually going to marry Camilla, the chick from the Riverwood Trader.

    Sargoth

    On December 13, 2011 at 3:40 am

To marry anybody, you have to get them to like you. For Ysolda, get her the mammoth tusk and she’ll be all over you like stink on . For any of the companions, complete the companions questline. The only one who dies is Skjor, Aela’s bald boyfriend thing, and Kodlak. Nobody really gets choked up about him anyway, since he’s a .

So the ‘favor’ is literally a favor. Just do that person’s side quest, if they have one.

Some characters can’t be married on account of them already being married. The hot ones are usually married. If you find somebody covered in , you can probably marry them.

I don’t know why you’d say that someone dies when they don’t, that’s just a move.

    Sargoth

    On December 13, 2011 at 3:53 am

Also, Lydia is currently bugged and cannot be married, though according the script she is supposed to be marriageable. I assume Bethesda is attempting to patch this, and the PC version probably has a workaround.

Some ‘favors’ aka sidequests from certain characters can’t be obtained until higher levels. Mjoll, for example, won’t give a lvl. 15 guy the quest to find Grimsever. I don’t know the level she’ll give it out but I got it at lvl. 44.

    Sargoth

    On December 13, 2011 at 3:56 am

Also? Every character sets up shop, cooks for you, and gives you money after you marry them, so it’s really just a matter of choice. So you can just marry the first one you see if all you want is money, pie, and an extra Misc. shop.

    Sargoth

    On December 13, 2011 at 4:01 am

@Rapture: No, there’s no way to get divorced or re-married on the console without bumping off your wife. So tell Lydia to wait outside and kill your spouse.

Then all you need is the Amulet of Mara to get married again.

Make sure there’s no witnesses and to do it inside your house to prevent the bounty/jail crap.

When I did this, Lydia was inside and attacked me, but you can ‘surrender’ by sheathing, she’ll walk away, and you can get re-married.

Well, I played a male Nord and always had Marcurio with me because frankly he’s amazing and really balanced my heavy-armor-cleave-them-with-a-great-sword play style. So when the time came, I just married him. It was a little awkward at the ceremony and occasionally he calls me “his love” but now he’s completely indestructible and gives me gifts occasionally. Plus he has interesting dialogue and is kinda funny. I call it a win.

What sucks is that, apart from her starting apparel (basic armor), I can’t get her to wear anything (or nothing ;-) ) else except for some dumb magic robes.

She has died a couple times in battle, but I like her enough to reload my game when that happens. Lately, I’ve been keeping her at home, though, especially when I go on more difficult quests.

    On December 21, 2011 at 7:20 pm

@Daniel its a glitch, the bodies are those of previous followers who have died, drag the body/bodies into the back room and close the doors then speak to your wife/husband to be again and convince them to re-marry then do the whole marriage quest again, it should work fine as long as you have moved the bodies.

    Lydia is everybodys .
I wanted to marry Astrid, the leader of dark brotherhood, but at the end of the dark brotherhood main quest, she betrays you and dies. Broke my heart. Also she’s already married.
And who the hell wants to marry Uthgerd? She’s like the biggest butch, and she starts drooling over you after you kick her ass in a fistfight. She doesn’t seem that stabil.
OH AND OMG Karliah’s voice is TO DIE FOR. Just wanna sit and hear her talk all day long. No more dragonslaying.

And all you who are having problems with your wife/husband leaving right after the wedding.. Check where they used to hang out. I married Farkas, we have been thru so much together. On December 23, 2011 at 10:44 pm

I think it’s funny that I spent all day today trying to find a guy to marry, and the only people that showed any interest in me were women. I’m about to just say “ it” and marry Ysolda or something. Funny thing is, that’s my boyfriend’s wife in the game and I didn’t find out until earlier today when I started looking for someone to marry. Haha.
It is hard for girls to find somewhat decent looking guys to marry though. At least that’s the problem I have anyway. I’m not concerned with having a smoking hot husband or anything (looks don’t concern me much in a video game), but I at least want someone who isn’t a drunk/beggar, an old guy, or weird looking.

Then again, she’d just be like, WTF are you doing!? LEMME DIE ALREADY and i’d be clinging to her leg NUUU!! Your’e too cute to die! On December 27, 2011 at 3:30 am

I don’t think you can marry Karliah at present and some of the other NPCs since they have unique voices (like Cicero and so forth).

I’m disappointed at the list like many others, but was happy to discover you can use the console to make Niranye available for marriage, since Taarie is a nightmare, and playing an Altmer requires, well, a mer-only marriage. Also, I don’t know about all of the Jarls, but you can marry Siddgeir using the console. I think any of the jarls stay in their home though and won’t move in with you.

Too bad none of the Thalmor types can be married.

Also, Bosmer don’t have completely alien religion like some previous posters have been saying and have a lot of the normal gods listed for their religion in addition to their unique beliefs, so it makes no sense you cannot marry them, especially if you’re playing one as well.

For everyone complaining about how ugly the male/female characters are, they are far more attractive than those ugly lumps of characters in Oblivion!

And I have to agree…thank the gods I am a (straight) male character; there are lots of sweet looking women, but if I wanted to marry a guy, they are all pretty grubby looking.

Okay to answer some people’s questions: In order to get Farkas, Vilkas, Aela, Athis, and the others from the Companions group, you need to complete the Companion group’s main quest, and then wear the amulet of Mara. You don’t need to complete their personal missions, those are just side jobs for more money.

I first marry Ysolda, that’s cuz i saw her in Whiterun and though: Damn she is HAWT! Then i saw her poor house and i can’t help myself but buying the pretty house in Solitude for her. She was fascinated.
Everythig was cool until i saw Aela, i dismiss the stupid Lydia to start going out with Aela into the adventure. That woman looks beautiful in the daedric armor.
I decide to get married again but i can’t get divorced :( or get multiple wives, so i came to the conclusion to kill Ysolda and destroy/sell the marriage rings.
I’ve killed her in the most painless way i can, she just felt and not a single ouch. Then i leave her dead body on the bed of her house.
    BUT NOW, i can’t re-marry with my lover Aela…

I unfortunately killed Uthger the unbroken in Whiterun (bannered Mare) at the start of the game, I took her outside to whiterun stables by asking her to follow me (have to brawl with her and win to have option) because i wanted her armor which was very strong at the time. I dumped her body in the river across whiterun stables. I now wanted to marry Aela the Huntress but every time I arrange the wedding (successful) Uthger spawns dead in the temple of markarth when the wedding is about to take place. All the guest leave and the wedding fails. :/ Uthger is one of the guests in the wedding. I cannot find her body and use “resurrect” to solve the problem before the marriage.

    Khalis

    On January 3, 2012 at 12:07 am

Senna is the hottest sorry guys. She’s into men too by how she talks, she’s a priestess for a Goddess of Love man. Come on. She’s extremely attractive, and so what is if she can’t fight with a sword. Problem is, I married her, had my sights set on her since I walked into that temple, then she’s just poof, gone from the game. WTF batman?!?!?!

Well I go back to previous point, get this all set up again, now let’s see if I can nab Elisif :p. Lost her husband that poor thing and sometimes she says “It’s a fine day with you around” She needs a new man to get things done.

Senna is still the hottest, they just need to fix that dam thing.

    Khalis

    On January 3, 2012 at 12:12 am

Ps for those people keep asking HOW to marry Senna, you cannot approach her for that until you do the quest for the temple. You have to find the new girl or something. She’s in Khartsten. Her dad tells you the Forsworn stole her, recover her at Broken Tower Redoubt, bring her back to temple.

But to get that quest, you have to get caught stealing from the temple, and finding the girl is your “penance”

    1. Get caught stealing
    2. Accept quest
    3. Go to Khark and ask around
    4. Dad is in mine will tell you Broken Tower
    5. Recover girl
    6. Bring back to temple of Dibella
    7. Receive the Blessing
    8. Amulet on and talk to Senna, and yes she’s interested in you

Problem is like I said, you go get married, she walks out and I cannot find her anywhere.

    Khalis

    On January 3, 2012 at 2:52 am

Key to Senna, you HAVE to talk to her before she walks out of the temple in the ceremony. That’s why you can’t find her after. If you talk to her before she leaves, the choice of where to live pops up. You tell her you want to live at your house she will go there. If you fast travel she may not be there right off, but I picked my house in Whiterun and after a couple days she was there and has been there.

She’s really quite caring and man I wish she was real. Really hot!!!

“Is there any possible way of marrying a girl named Hroki in Markarth, she stands near the market, and she is the most attractive girl in Skyrim”

Yes if you are playing the PC. I’m married to her. If the console commands listed here in many places (addfac 19809 0 and then setrelationshiprank player 4) do not work, just download the mod on Skyrim Nexus. Search “Hroki” you will find it. She comes with upgraded thieves guild armor too, and boosted stats. Although you may still have to change her confidence level to 3 since she’s a coward.

There is also a new mod which allows you to modify NPC’s now too, but I’ve not used it yet so I don’t know if it addressed this topic.

I decided to marry Mjoll the Lioness, which might I say was a fine choice. But I’ve found that her follower, Aerin, insist on turning up to my house in Whiterun at sunrise, and only leaves at sunset.
It makes me really insecure about my marriage with Mjoll, having him mincing around the house all day while I’m out, sweating, flexing my muscles, and laying my healing hands on Lydia where there is no sexual tension at all.
Basically though, I’m just wondering is Aerin is popping up now and again for everyone else.. And if there is a way to make him.. Disappear..
PS. I tried an Axe to the face.. And that only got me a rather high bounty and a vengeful wife..

    Dirge

    On January 4, 2012 at 9:44 am

I came to the marriage game late. I was already level 45 by the time I even first stepped foot inside Mara’s temple. I had no idea. All the adventures, slaughtering of undead whilst glancing back over my shoulder wondering what it would be like to have a faithful companion, with more to offer than pack mule skills.

Then everything changed for this twilight adventurer. With nothing left in Skyrim to dominate, the dragons defeated, the civil war over, my world became gray and empty…until I stumbled into the temple of Mara.

Needless to say I found Aela a fitting spouse. We may have been compatible given we’re both werewolves, but I like to think she’s attracted to the way I bandit’s throats. And to all those who don’t find the appreciation in their significant others, you are mad. The list of benefits is enormous. She goes were I want, no arguments. Eagerly defends my life and will take the burden off my shoulders. How unconditional. And on top of all this, having 100K gold and enough jewels riches to fund an jarl’s hold dosen’t stop this girl from running a damn store out of our house and make more money. Simply amazing.

    Kevin Thielenhaus

    On January 4, 2012 at 3:48 pm

    Hey Tony,

There are a few ways to “divorce” your spouse in Skyrim, but unfortunately they all require use of the console. That means divorce, as of right now, is only available to PC players. Here’s one way to divorce:

Kill your Spouse, preferably in your home so you don’t get a bounty on your head.

Open the console with the tilde key [`] and enter this command [Setstage RelationshipMarriage 10].

Now, select your dead spouse and use this console command [Resurrect].

Your spouse is now alive! If you want your old spouse to still like you, select them and use the command [setrelationshiprank player 4]

Hopefully that should work for you.

    Tony

    On January 4, 2012 at 4:15 pm

Thanks Kevin, if I knew it was going to be a hassle I wouldn’t have asked lol. I’m not that bothered about getting married/remarried etc anyway, just wish I hadn’t killed her and saved over it now :)

    Kevin Thielenhaus

    On January 4, 2012 at 4:27 pm

    Hey Tony!

Yeeeaaah, getting divorced just isn’t something implemented into the game just yet. It’s a total hassle!

Thanks for the reply, and goodluck with your future Skyrimming!

    On January 4, 2012 at 4:36 pm

I thought u could just kill the wife u had and get remarried simple as that. I tried turning her into ash with a volley of fire balls as she was sitting down to dinner asking me how my day was, that didn’t work, she just sat there munching bread whilst on fire so I finished her off with a second volley and dragged her to the spare room were she’s stuck under the bed.

Okay – so I have scouted all over Skyrim and have this shortlist of acceptable men: Argis the Bulwark (finest by far – got a deep dark voice, smoldering Barbarian looks and some sexy scars); Marcutio (smart, funny, wiseguy Imperial mage); Erik the Slayer (sweet-natured young Barbarian farm-boy, completely devoted for life); Athis (mysterious and menacing dark elf); Vorstag (basically Ahnuld in his Conan days); Vilkas or Farkas (twin werewolf warriors, sporting some unfortunate ‘Kiss’ stage paint); and last but not least, Moth gro-Bagol (tasty hunk of Orc, for the girl who likes a bit of rough). I am a male Breton and so far have not gotten married.

I am a little conflicted on who I should marry.

Ysolda is an easy choice for a wife considering she is pretty and I think she gives you a good money supply.

However I read that if you get married to someone your spouse becomes harder to kill? Idk if that is true but if it is then maybe I should just marry my companion Marcurio. He is an awesome follower and I can’t say that he is ugly so I guess I wouldn’t mind..

Idk one of them will likely be my partner [and regardless Marcurio is still going to be traveling around with me as my best friend].

For those of you who think Hroki is hot and are disappointed that she can’t be married, lets face it, it’s her clothes that set her apart from most of the other women in the game. If you go to Liar’s Retreat you can pick up a set of “Tavern Cloths” off of one of the dead bodies. This is what Hroki is wearing, so you can put it on another woman.

I think it’s completely unfair that the are male and female Argonian marriage candidates, but no Khajit candidates. Why would they not have put at least one of each speicies/type of person you could have chose from in the beginning of the game, is beyond me. If anyone sees this, and is aware that you can marry a Khajit man, please reply!

I wouldn’t choose a spouse instantly before getting to know some background knowledge. Like which faction she likes more and simple things like that. I chose Aela the Huntress because she is the most attractive girl in the game in my opinion and she is neutral for the whole civil war thing. She is an archer and opens a shop when at home that collects money for you and if you talk to her she will give you half of the profits. She will also train you in archery and sell you things from her shop. I knew she was going to be my wife before I even owned the game.

After that, if you speak with Farkas you can cure him as well, doesn’t matter if you married him after or before that.(I married him just before:P)

But when I met Lydia that all changed. We’ve been killing trolls, looting bandits and travelling the world together. Now I find out I can’t marry her and tear her ass up?! What kind of evil is this?!

Bethesda, not for nothing but there way too many bugs in this game. Did anyone test this game before you put it on store shelves and why is there only 5 or 6 different voices doing ALL the voiceovers? I’m not sure I like all the non-traditional aspects of the game, but I do like the actual gameplay itself.

I did the quest and married Camilla from Riverwood. One of the main reasons I married her is because I wanted someone to travel with me and carry items like Faenndal. Poor Faenndal died because I contracted vampirism (NOT a good feature in THIS game) and I had to kill him or let him kill me. Anyway, I married her and she does not leave the house. If anyone had any comments or advice I would sure love to hear it. And by the way, None of the females in this game look like females. They all seem like they have man-faces. Thats fine for the butchy warrior-like ones but I would prefer to have something a little more easy on the eyes. Anyway, how do I get my in-game wife out of the house?

    1. She’s a competent Mage, which is important.
    2. She’s the same race as I.
    3. She’s at the college, which I will be attending.

And, I guess, she is kind of pretty.

He’s not that good looking or anything, I was just bored of serching for a guy. Sooo anywayyy, I’m saving up money to buy a house in Solitude, so I don’t have a house so when I married the guy I had to moe in with him, AND HE LIVES WITH GUARDS!!!!!! I have to use a lockpick every time to get in my house and I have a bunch of guards in it. It totally sucks.

Aerin was annoying since he just appears at whatever town you move to and constantly spouts his set dialog about Mjoll and riften etc… however i was at my home in whiterun and asked mjoll to follow me and because of hat Aerin headed of of the town (assuming he was heading back to riften as thats where is character is set to be) so i followed him and near the ritual stone a scavenger beheaded him… problem solved if you wanna get rid of him but not actually kill him

it was love at first sight with Njada Stonearm. i walked into the companions area and found her brawling with that elf… when she took him out my man parts became the hardest thing in all of skyrim. i knew it had to be her. when i first approached her she treated me like and i just view it as a challenge. after completing the companion quests it was on like donkey kong. she’s been with me on every adventure since then. i asked her ONCE to cook. it sounded like she was gonna break my d**k off for insulting her. lol. the option hasn’t shown up in my menu again. lol. also i was surprisingly pleased with her appearance once i got that stupid looking helmet off her. she’s got beautiful hair. just give her a better helmet then buy the ugly one out of her store then take back the one you gave her. lol. all in all i’m quite pleased with her so far.

Am I the only one that finds it odd that you can marry Camilla even though Sven and Faendal can be your follower? They’re both obsessed with her, and she likes Faendal… o.o He was my CURRENT follower when we got hitched. Nothing says awkward quite like having your wife’s ex-boyfriend/lover attend your same-sex marriage after he’s saved your life Divines know how many times. >.< I have to Skyrim files, both females (one an Orc warrior, the other a Khajiit thief/assassin). My Orc married Moth (the male blacksmith in Markarth), and my Khajiit married Camilla. I have to say, I much prefer Camilla. Something about coming home to a woman with money and food to give me is just so pleasing. ;P

I joined the dark brotherhood just so I could marry Astrid… and to assassinate people, but that’s not the point. I watch Abjorn die and I was overjoyed. When the nightmother told me to talk to Astrid, I was hoping it wasn’t her soul or some crap and that she was ready to get rebounded. Then I see her body on the ground, pretty much looking like a burnt corpse with a mouth, nose, hair, and eyes, and I knew then that I died a little on the inside. Aela ran away in the middle of a quest I was doing with her, so she is out of the question. Can’t marry Camila, because I killed her to marry Aela( she was my first wife). Now nobody will marry me.

I have to give it up to Muiri as the woman of my choice. She’s got a smokin body in that Nocturnal outfit and I’m loving the cute warpaint under her eyes. Definitely the one I will be marrying, since I’m into the Dark Brotherhood and all…

At least Bethesda gave all of them a nice rack and great curves, for the uglies, I’m sure you can find a potato sack or something to fix that.

I don’t know why you guys are complaining. I think alot of the girls were cool, especially Sylgja and Aela. But for the men, the only hot one I see is Farkas, who has been on my eye since I saw him kill that giant ;) SO dont be complaining guys, us girls have it alot tougher.

    On January 31, 2012 at 8:32 am

Ok, I won’t advise or recommend anything specific, rather I’ll just tell you all what I did and what you do with the info is up to you.

I bought Xbox version, full price retail, so there’s no ‘normal’ way to do such things as ‘Undo marriage’ (Divorce without harming NPC and keep them as an option). So I simply got my hands on the PC version. (Remember I bought the game on Xbox fully legit, so paying another 60 bucks to get console commands is not right IMHO..). Re: my PC version, I’ll only say Razor1911 is the man!

So using freeware Xbox save game management tools, I extracted the Savegame.dat file from my USB Xbox save on the same PC, renamed it to match my test saves from the PC game with an .ess extension, loaded it on the PC game and then—

Using the commands from the Skyrim Wiki:
    removefac 51596
    player.removefac C6472
    resetquest 74793
    resetquest 21382
    setstage 74793 10

Successfully voided my prior engagement with Sylgja. I wanted to get a wife that is also a follower, at least until I repeat the above process so I can find out all the possibilities between almost any woman in the game.

Before I married Aela (after promoting her to Blade status), I went to Markarth and went up to Hroki and entered the following commands (the key is to click on her in the right way, it took me about 10 tries to get it to work) with her as the target:
    addfac 19809 1
    setrelationshiprank player 4

I then copied the save game back to my usb, overwriting the Savegame.dat within the original save game, rehashed the file and all that good stuff and then moved the USB back to the XBox.

At that point, even on the Xbox (and all the dialogue, etc. worked perfectly), I could initiate the conversation with Hroki about “are you interested”. The save game seems totally fine, no side effects that I have seen yet…

I ended up marrying Aela, as I mentioned.

The only thing I haven’t figured out yet is a way to reset the Dark Brotherhood quests so I can kill Astrid rather than one of the hostages (the character is my Nord “good guy” and I had assumed Astrid was another “invincible” npc and that there wasn’t any other option…) Anyway, I did that as of last night, so I can confirm everything I’ve stated is possible at this time.

yes!!! why can’t we just marry anyone that’s eligable?? I met this elf the other day, a wood cutter, with the most good natured and high spirited personality in the game! what a joy to hang around with! and I can’t marry him WHY??? or Faendal! he’s been with me since the very begining of the game! even if he did have a sweetheart, she doesn’t even notice him and we’ve been toguether so long I’m sure he’d be ok with marrying me.
Or a khajiit? I have a bunch of friend khajiits by now, most even offer to acompany me, why not marry?

I tell you why: sexist game! and the guys should shut up! I already had 4 or 5 fine looking women after me, some of them amazing fighters too and any of them would be a perfectly good choice of a spouse! but men… There’s Farkas and… Farkas! LOL

Aela the Huntress is by far the most beneficial character to marry. Once you’re married she opens up shop inside Jorrvaskr and randomly gives you 100-3000 gold.(depending on how long you wait to take your share.) She is a Companions Leader, so she still assigns quests even after you become Harbinger, that reward you with leveled amounts of gold. Also, She is a follower so you can take her with you on your adventures AND, because she is a crucial character in one of the main questlines, she is invincible, unlike any of the other follower choices.

Well, I married Farkas. He stopped cooking!!!! He does not assign me more quest. And I bought a second house, after Wntherum, I bought a bigger one in Windelhem (I don’t remember how to spell that :p). When asked him to move to my new house, he moved, so so far it was going ok. Later I could find him, and went to the basement, he was sleeping there!!! And if you sleep alone, not with your spouse, you don’t get that kind of rest that is supposed to be better!!!! So I had to ask him to move back to my house in Wintherum….
I’m still mad because he is one of teh companions and he doesn’t give quest, and he does not have the cooking option anymore!!

selection is terrible for the console players, us pc players get a little more options but still. kinda messed up that none of the thieves guild girls are marryable. hopefully somebody comes up with a a mod for that. i mean what better wive for my dark elf assassin/thief then Karliah or even Vex or Sapphire. I might actually look into making a mod for that maybe throw in Brynjolf too for the ladies. In the mean time I picked Camilla and hacked her in the console to wear Nocturnal robes. you have to go into the inventory in the console and take the default outfit but then it works. Anyone else interested in a marryable Thieves Guild mod?

seriously people?… just google skyrim marriage for the full list of male and female npc’s eligible for marriage.

oh and btw, the chick from Shor’s Stone is the cutest female you can marry (muiri’s eyes are too far apart for my tastes) but the bad thing about her is her miner clothing.

p.s to marry the girls in the temple of dibella you have to do the quest to find the little girl for the main priestess there (shes in the room you have to pick the lock to and i think you have to do the quest for the begger to steal their stature first then talk to her or just go straight to her)

..but no way she’ll take me on..
    Dammit !!
I can marry my Proudspire house carl …but I don’t want her …
I prefer my feisty Illia who has helped me lay to rest the souls of at least 15 dragons.

Just as and aside …I very often have to reload an earlier game and make frequent visits home …just to maintain the link with Illia …

I advise everybody to see their spouse home from the wedding ceremony. When I married Ysolda from Whiterun she somehow was killed on her way home from the wedding ceremony in Rifton. She never appeared in my house in Whiterun and when I checked her house all her possessions could be taken without being stolen, so she must be dead.
I didn’t even know NPCs could be killed on unsupervised overland travels.

If you want to marry Aela the Huntress, you have to complete the main questline for the Companions. After you do, then you will be able to wed her.

My wife/companion is Aela. When we married we were both werewolves. I subsequently took the cure. However, now when resting I get no resting bonus. Is this because Aela is still a vampire? If so, is there a way to get her to take the cure?

I love the game and can,t really complain…it’s fun. Marriage though is nothing more than an in-house merchant who calls you love. Kind of funny, really…blood and gore, but can’t even at least get a peck on the cheek when you go out to go on your slaughter spree for the day. But, all and all…great game—except for marriage.

Dissapointed that Farengar Secret-Fire isn’t marriage material…I heard
a rumour that Hearthfire adds more potential spouses however,
    but that could be untrue.
If my absent minded nord isn’t ready for a commitment however, I might
marcurio. Shame that he loses most of his personality though.

    @Owlia,

Hearthfire totally adds more spouses! Dragonfire too. Check out the new marriage options on both of our DLC lists:

You can totally still get married, even if you’re a werewolf or a vampire! As long as your spouse is into it.

So I married Farkas, and the dude keeps trying to arrest me! Just because I steal stuff now and then behind his back. Yeah it’s kinda exciting having your husband chasing your butt all over town but it gets tiresome ya know?

    Will-I-Am

    On April 4, 2014 at 10:03 am

OK, so I finally managed to marry Susanna the Wicked (IMHO the best one in the bunch, who’s not only hot but is also vicious in battle). After we said our “I dos” and received the rings, she left the temple and is nowhere to be found.

A little background: She was my companion who followed me everywhere, and helped me with my quests, and I finally went through the hoops of getting married, and to my surprise after I had permission to get married, I turned to her and talked with her and she practically asked me to marry her. So it was done. We were married!

So, anyway, she leaves the temple and now I cannot find her. I even tried the following console commands to place her with me:
    pld 001b11b
    moveto player

But that didn’t not work. I can only assume that as soon as we were married that she was no longer considered my follower and that’s why the above commands didn’t work?

    Skyrim Necrosex king.

    On July 9, 2014 at 5:55 pm

Okay, I realize that this thread is practically ancient, but I’ve got to weigh in on this.

First and foremost, Sex mods from full nudity to sex to BDSM are out there for p.c. I don’t know if they existed in 2011 when this thread first started, but they are out there. I hate winblows and Mac and linux (my preferred o.s.) sucks balls for gaming (even using wine) so I use 360 where no such mods exist…and probably never will. :(

Secondly, For those of us who want something of a sexual component to our marriages, just pick a companionable partner whose clothes you can strip down to their chonies and wait until they’re asleep. Sleeping next to them was the makers way of implying that you’ve had sex.

Thirdly, most of the posters on here are way yonder too picky! Especially the Ladies. Why y’all go so nuts over Brynolf and he is good looking, but For real, Vilkas and Farkas are ugly!? Y’all want these modern, metrosexual, sissy faced guys and that isn’t something you’re going to find in great numbers in such a brutal land at such a brutal time. The guys in Skyrim for the most part look like-I dunno-REAL MEN maybe!? Both my real life Wife and I used our characters (Female Imperial and Female Dunmer repsectively) to marry STENVAR.
He’s the Nord hottie/Mercenary that resides in Candlehearth hall in Windhelm. Imagine ROB HALFORD of Judas Priest with a full, slightly greying beard and you get the picture. If you don’t like him, you can always marry the more “demure” looking guys-like the blonde, Alkie companion that’s always talking about guzzling mead. But he is not very attentive and says dumb like “You know I love ya.” when he knows he’s about to enter the doghouse for his excessive, alchohol inspired neglect (my Breton killed him for it!)

My fellow Men on here ain’t much better when it comes to pickiness-no better at all actually. As a Nerd male with the great fortune of finding a gorgeous, real life nerd Goddess of a wife who gives me what every man wants from a Woman emotionally-VALIDATION-I would highly recommend JORDIS THE SWORD MAIDEN. She’s the second sexiest companionable Woman in the game next to Lydia ALWAYS proud of you-even when you leave her alone for too long (“Back from some adventure I bet!”) Sylja is another sweetie of a choice who is hot as hell, but you can’t get the uncompanionable NPCS stripped down to their underwear-so I usually don’t marry them.

Lastly, Love is a wonderful thing-real life or game wise-so good luck to everyone of you on both fronts. :)
