Maybe it’s not so much a cheat as taking advantage of the trust of another character in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but a little trick discovered by YouTube user QuebecGaming1 lets you power level your Archery skill without any effort or net cost.

The trick becomes available when you reach Riverwood, which is your first real location after the opening sequence of the game. When you arrive, you’ll be able to speak with an archer/woodcutter called Faendal. Look for him by the mill most of the time. After you find him, you can recruit him as a companion (which is also handy because, as I’ve read on the Internet [although have not independently verified], he can’t be killed). You can also ask him to train you in archery, which allows you to boost your rank as many as five times per level if you’re willing to pay.

Recruit Faendal as a companion and then ask him to train you in archery. With companions, you’re able to ask them to carry inventory items for you, and that lets you access their inventory and make changes. In the case of Faendal, any gold he has on his person — including the gold you’d pay him to train you in archery — he keeps in his inventory. Which means once he’s your companion, you can hand him gold for training, then open his inventory and take it back. That means you can boost your archery skill insanely high for absolutely nothing.

This is also true with many other skills as you can also recruit through the Thieves Guild, Winterhold college, and The Companions! The Master Archery is actually in the Ragged Flagon with the Thieves Guild, and he too can be recruited and the same process taking place with the training, and then trading with them to return your gold!

I had faendal and he can die. First a dragon killed him so i reloaded the save, then a group of bandits killed him.

The downside is that he can teach you past 50 skill. The woman Companion in Whiterun (Aela the Huntress?) teaches up to 75 skill iirc.

I have Fendal as my companion and he can’t die. He just takes knee for a few minutes then gets up and goes again. I was worried he died once while fighting a dragon and a giant. After I killed them I went to find his body and he came running up. Since then he has “died” multiple times in big fights. He just falls, takes a knee for a few minutes then gets up and joins me again. Sure is nice, I lost some dragon scales and stuff when another companion of mine died and I couldn’t find her body for anything. So far, he cant be killed….except by me, I’ve killed him on accident before when I was trying out raising my single handed, by striking him…I also did the archery thing with him. Just my experience for you.

THis doesn’t work when you recruit Fendal. I had my original companion and when I gave the letter to camellia, it back fired and she told me to talk to Sevn.

If you’re on the pc you could just use console commands instead of abusing that.

Can youhave multiple companions?

I killed him by accident before he was my companion and I’m all ready a bit in the game so do I have to restart a save or what

Phil Hornshaw

@David

Just one companion at a time. If you pick up a new one, you dismiss the old one.

@Fionntan

You can do the same trick with several other trainers. Another archery trainer is the huntress member of the Companions, who will also accompany you on some missions and can be made a full-time companion once you complete that questline.

All followers/companions fall to their knees instead of dying. The only way to kill them is to accidentally do it yourself. At least that’s my experience. Whilst kneeling they are however useless. Sometimes in a lengthy fight they’ll get up again, if you take the heat for a while.

Or you could of course kill them on purpose. Why you would do that, however, is beyond me.

Your companion Can ve kilde at hugger levels by your enermies. The thing is that when your companion Got some % Heath left hé/she drop to Theis knee for some time. Lers sat it is.. 90%. If an enemy damages your companion from 39% to 91% the enemy should be able to dó a killing blow from 91% to 100%. This your companion dies.

Sorry for the poor spelling, it was written on a smartphone.

You can also pickpocket the money off your companion (make sure they arent looking) and you can level your pickpocketing at the same time

They can die. Lydia died on me before. So I had to reload, tell her to wait somewhere safely and sniper the bandits from afar.

It does work but only if you give the letter that Sven gave you to Camellia BUT you tell her that Sven wrote it. Faendal is greatful and will then allow you to recuit him.

I “accidentally” killed Sven, Camilla, and Faendal when I first came to Riverwood on my first account. I had never played any Skyrim game so…yeah.

Feandal can die. As a matter of fact I have assassinated him to take a sample of his blood for the quest diserning the transmundane.

All companions can be killed from various creatures in skyrim, just not ifte. For instance, Lydia can be killed by giants if trapped or being attacked by mammiths as well. Her hp drops to a point she takes a knee and any damage while down kills her, the same goes with all other companions. A good way to get pickpocketing up is use extended invisibility potions this will autokatically increase your sneak to 100 however your lock pick skill is still low, what I do is I pit a number of ancient nirds arrows in someones inventoty 1 arrow at a time, its lightweight thus the chance of success is nearly always 100%.

@Daniel and others…

Followers like Faendal and such do take a knee when close to death. This reduces threat and can keep them from dying. However, if at anytime during the fight you do just 1 point of damage to them at all, they will die instead of taking a knee, even if it was not the last damage they took. This is why some of you are saying they can die and others are saying they cannot. It is subjective to whether or not you did any damage to them during the fight or at all since the most recent reset.

BTW: Reset occurs each time you/they exit combat.

sorry but this video is wrong you can not level archry to 100 threw Fendal he can only get you to level 50 then u need to go to the companions and get the lady there to level you to level 75 then go to another person to train to level 90 you can not use a trainer to get to level 100 it even says it in the elder scrolls wiki that after level 90 your on your on to level all skills to 100

As for your followers they can die at anytime unless they are related to a quest the only ones that can not die are the kids and the 2 guys you follow at the beginning of the game and the jarls most everyone else in the game can die why do you think Bethesda has so many followers to get weather it be by free or paying for them you get a freaking lot of followers to choose from however you can only have 1 human/humanoid and 1 pet unless you are to get 1 from a questline then u get 2 humans/ humanoids and/or 2 pets
