Skyrim: Ruin Your Marriage With a Corpse [Glitch]

On that perfect day, one minor imperfection can ruin everything for your spouse-in-waiting. A little thing like a dead body will wreck any burgeoning relationship, but not so completely that things can’t be patched up. Beware of this nasty (And smelly) glitch at your wedding, and read below for a quick solution. Don’t let one bad ceremony get you down — try, try again.

You won’t have to keep trying with Game Front’s text and video walkthrough guide, showing you how to survive the deadly open-world of Skyrim. For more information, secrets, and unique articles covering every subject imaginable about Skyrim, check out our Game Front cheats page.

How To Ruin Your Marriage (And How To Save Your Marriage)

  1. The glitch will only trigger at your wedding ceremony. To get married in Skyrim, check out our Skyrim Marriage Guide right here on Game Front.
  2. Before getting married, though, one of your companions will need to die. Lydia, Faendal, or any other follower will do.
  3. Just as your marriage begins, your dead follower’s corpse will appear on the floor near the door. Your wedding partner, strangely enough, isn’t very happy about a corpse laying at his/her feet. You won’t be able to get married with the body there, stinking up the Temple of Mara.
  4. To fix your marital issues, just drag the body away — downstairs works. Out of sight, out of mind.
  5. With the body gone, talk to your partner and re-propose marriage. You’ll have to set another date, but the body will remain downstairs and out of the way for your second nuptial event.

Y’know, I think I’d rather marry the corpse than a woman who is afraid of a smelly dead body. I mean c’mon, they’re practically EVERYWHERE in Skyrim, not like it’s hard to find one.

I was in the temple with my partner (who was an ally at that time) already becasue i didn’t exactly understand when the wedding would take place and I already missed it once, just waited an hour every time until the ceremony started. And I didn’t have any issue, only saw the corpses after the wedding on exit and no one else seemed to even notice them. it’s more time consuming but another way to fix it.

I had this exact problem! Lydia showed up dead and naked! She had died earlier :( anyway I was about to get married to Sorex Vinius from Solitude, and the wedding failed and he walked away! So I dragged the body into another room around then corner and went to find Sorex to ask for marriage again. I got a second chance and then the wedding went through! :)

The wedding starts 24 hours on the dot from when you spoke to the Priest of Mara.
After arranging the wedding with him, just wait 23 hours using the wait function. The last hour you will have to wait in real time (a minute or two).

If you had a follower die before your proposal, you will need to clear the body as described above.

This glitch would have been cooler if there was a cutscene of your dead follower crying for justice.

“Why ….? Why… Did you let me die….? Now as my body rots in the unknown, you continue on without me… How could you… Seeking happiness and joy… ”

He/She/It could then curse the wedding and drop the dead body .

Better story for a glitch :)

To drag the body (or to drag anything for that matter) press and hold ‘E’ while moving it. :)

Huh. I had two corpses, one of them my sweet Jordis the Swordmaiden, but nobody seemed to notice. Must be because I missed the wedding the first time, everybody was so thrilled to see me, what’s a few dead bodies? I refrained from telling Ysolda that I would have preferred to marry Jordis ;P

This just happened to me. Uthgerd the Unbroken died early on in a treacherous dungeon quest…

I chose to marry Aela, all the companions rocked up it was going swimmingly then Uthgerd’s naked, lifeless body appeared out of nowhere, everyone was stunned, and told me to get lost and they all walked out.

So I thought, what they hey, dragged the corpse into the next room, waited a day, apolosiged to Maramal, and then went and spoke to my beloved and sincerely apologised for dumping a body in the back of the church on her special day.

She forgave me, we set up the wedding again, and once again all my buds came to watch…. then, my beloved decides to walk around and open the door to the room Uthgerd is in. She sees her lying on the floor on a bearskin rug, asks “What happened here?” then strolls over to where I am standing in front of the priest and we tie the knot.

    Happy ending? Kinda…

Another way to fix it is to bring a follower with you. I accidentally killed Lydia awhile back, and when I went to get married and was alone (w/o follower) her corpse just shows up and ruins it. But when you have a follower, it blocks her or any of your dead followers from showing up. I guess they’re linked to you and want to share in the day… Alive… Or dead body broken on the ground.

… I wanted to marry Aela… But she died on the final quest of the Companions. So I married Iona. Nearly cried when Aela’s body was there U.U

The thing is, there is no corpse. And yet it fails, this is probably my 10.th or more playthrough in skyrim. Never had this problem before.
