Skyrim’s Amazing Fans: Cosplay, Mods, Comics & Screens

A game series that inspires the kind of devotion enjoyed by the Elder Scrolls series is rare indeed. In less than a year and a half, Skyrim has sold 10 million copies and has become a pop culture sensation, spawning memes that have popped up in the weirdest places — including (we are not kidding) an episode of your grandparent’s favorite television show, “NCIS.”

No wonder then, that with the final DLC pack Dragonborn behind it, Bethesda is bringing the Skyrim era to a big finish with the recently announced Legendary Edition (which will include the main game, and all DLCs), due June 4.

So, we thought a retrospective was in order. We’ve pored over illustrations, photographic-quality screenshots, and Skyrim-inspired music. We’ve dug deep into comics created by Skyrim fans, and into the incredible mods made possible by The Elder Scrolls Creation Kit. We’ve even taken a last look at the enormous cosplay community Skyrim has spawned. Whatever kind of nerd you are, there’s something here for you. Read on, then, for a final taste of how awesome the Skyrim fan community is.

We’ll kick this off with Malukah’s performance of the Skyrim theme song.

So sad that they aren’t doing any more dlc, best game ever.

The world Bethesda built and the the things people molded from it make me happy that there is still a demand for big story driven single-player games.

The only thing I want to see changed in Elder Scrolls VI is the combat; which is the only aspect of the series I think has remanded clunky and poorly executed.

Hey GameFront, are we ever going to be allowed to edit our comments?

I really feel like a mook when I notice something either missing from my stuff or a minor spelling mistake and have no ability to fix it.

Should’ve added music as well. The dragonborn comes, and then of course Lindsey Stirling’s cover of the Skyrim theme. A lot of the Skyrim players I know used that as the theme music instead of the original, epic as it was. Lindsey and Peter made it into something truly magical.

The music is there, on the last page.

To be honest among the insane amounts of garbage the major developers release nowadays Skyrim is among the few games which are still worthy of praise. Its fun, it can easily last for hundreds of hours and even after that you still want more.

If the fans want a feature Bethesda puts them in the game in the next patch or DLC, sure you have to pay for DLC but honestly I rather pay for this than some low quality Bioware release.

And most importantly Bethesda is fully supporting the modding of their game so if you don’t want to pay for DLC and/or if you want more than what they offer just download a mod for it. Mods can keep games alive decades after they are released.

And this really shows. A high quality and fun game sells well and has a large following. This isn’t a coincidence.

I’m concerned about the future of the series though with them making this pathetic MMO and all. They have a winning formula and had it since the first game. TES is like the COD of RPGs. They could release essentially the same thing with better graphics over and over and it’d never get old for the fans. I really hope they don’t want to give it up now.
