Skywind — When The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is Remade in Skyrim

Back in 2008, the world of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind was remade by modders using The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion engine. The knights of the keyboard are at it again, this time working to merge Morrowind into TES V: Skyrim, and as you can see by the first trailer below (spotted by RPS), “Skywind” is shaping up nicely.

According to the folks at Morroblivion, Skywind requires both the GOTY edition of Morrowind (or the standard game and its two expansions) and Skyrim. The mod is actually played in TES V, and the UI, graphics, combat, and systems are all those of Skyrim, not Morrowind. Yes, for you Morrowind fanatics out there, that means the robust class, skill, and attribute system of TES III has been paired down to fit within TES V. So it looks pretty, but it’s not exactly the hardcore RPG experience the original Morrowind delivered.

The Skywind mod is actually available to download and play right now, though it is still very much in alpha stages, so all you’ll be able to do is walk around and marvel at Red Mountain and other Morrowind sites. No combat, story, character building, or questing just yet. The alpha releases are meant to get people interested in the project, and potentially even work on it themselves. So if you like what you see in Skywind, join the team and chip in.
