Slender: Source Mod Pits You, Friends Against Slenderman
Earlier this month I wrote about a phenomenal experimental horror title called Slender, made by one Mark J. Hadley (also known about the Internet as Agent Parsec) as an attempt to learn the Unity engine.
That game is really a spectacular achievement in minimalist horror and immersion, and I’m certainly not the only person with whom the game resonated. Another group of game-makers was inspired by Hadley’s game to make a Slenderman horror title of their own. Dubbed Slender: Source, the game is being built as a mod for Half-Life 2, and the development team behind it expects it to be playable hopefully by about November 2012.
If you’ve played Slender (and seriously — you should play Slender), then the premise of Slender: Source will be familiar. You venture around various environments, searching for creepy dolls (as means of giving you something to do), while avoiding the mythic and horrible Slenderman. He has the ability to render you dead instantaneously, and you’re defenseless — just like in Parsec’s Slender.
The biggest difference is that you’ll be able to take on Slender: Source in a four-player co-op mode. Usually I’m not one for experiencing horror with friends because it’s somewhat less horrifying, but I’m fascinated.
There’s more info on Ethereal Entertainment’s ModDB page for the game. Trust that we’ll be keeping our ears to the ground on this one.
Also if any of you guys know Agent Parsec, tell him I’d love to interview him, would you?
