Smallville's Kristin Kreuk to Star as Chun-Li in Street Fighter Movie

 kristinkreukchunli1.JPG

You may recall that a new Street Fighter movie was confirmed to be in the works a few months back, and that the story would focus heavily on Chun-Li out for revenge. Now it looks like the actress filling the blue outfit and spiked bracelets will be none other than Smallville’s resident Lana Lane, Kristin Kreuk. The film, dubbed “Street Fighter: Legend of Chun-Li,” is slated to begin filming in Thailand this March with Andrzej Bartkowiak directing and Justin Marks penning the script. But enough about that; the point is there’s soon going to be a film with Kristin Kreuk doing martial arts moves in a little blue dress for about two hours. This movie just became watchable, people.

How can you find a pefect match from a cartoon to a real life person? I think Kristen Kreuk will be just fine to suit the role! I can’t wait for the movie…

Her thighs are too puny!

Thankyou Chun Li Fan, Yes her thighs are too puny.
See Chun Li is hot, she has hips, thighs, breasts and an ass. Kreuk has a cute smile and and irritating reedy voice.
I always thought almost every other girl on Smallville was hotter than her.
Lois, Kara, Chloe, even many of the guest stars.
I’m all for Canadian content, but the stickfigure look doesn’t do it for me.

Kristen Kreuk is hot as hell. Nearly every fan of Smallville agrees she is the hottest girl to make a regular appearance on the show. You must have bad taste.
And for the record: Kreuk’s hips and boobs may not be as big as Chun-Li’s, but they are more than adequate dude. She’s got a great ass as well. You’d have to be blind to not see it. Let’s not forget the magic of bras. So when the movie does come out, trust me, she’ll look pretty close to as hot as Chun-Li (just with smaller hips)

PS-Her hips are freakin’ gigantic anyways. Nobody could match them in real life…

Ryu FTW!

Chun Li has huge boobs and thighs, I hope Kristen works out for the role! Lol they should computer-enhance her boobs to make them bigger and bouncy!!!

i don’t believe Kristen Kreuk has an adequate body to fill Chun Li’s shoes but she’s totally hot and seeing her move around dressed like that is more than enough for me to forgive her, lol.

i’ve seen many woman who have figures in real life that could match Chun Li but if one of those woman were to be used, Chun Li would have to stop being asian, lol.

This is totally f!*#d – a complete travesty. Chun Li has been my idol ever since could store proper memories – been playing Street Fighter since I was old enough to pick up a control pad.

I don’t think K.K (pretty as she is) is worthy of the Chun Li legacy because:

A) She’s not womanly enough (she’s got more of that ‘girl-next-door’ appeal). Watch the original Mortal Kombat movie and check out Kitana and Sonia if you wanna see some believable looking WOMEN (as opposed to girls).

B) She’s not Chinese enough (even if she is HALF Chinese – her complexion and features don’t at all match up to any of the official sketches of what Chun Li would look like).

C) Would anybody seriously look her and say ‘Yep, she looks like she could be the strongest woman in the world’? No, I doubt they would. Not even for a second. She doesn’t look like someone you would take seriously as an accomplished fighter. Something about her vibe and appearance is too… cute, yet lacking character somehow.

D) To enhance the viewer experience, they should have chosen an unknown actress so that the audience can properly engage with the illusion of watching the REAL Chun Li as opposed to “that chick from Smallville” PRETENDING to be Chun Li.

E) Kreuk was an absolute s!ut/tart in Euro Trip and I don’t think anyone who has the right qualities to play the ‘s!ut,’ or ‘tart’ character (which she does) should ever EVER be given Chun Li rights.

I thought MingNa Wen was the perfect Chun Li. She was fully Chinese, she was fully womanly, she looked strong – she looked the part. Why couldn’t the casting crew just go to China and choose someone authentic-looking like that? I basically think that Kreuk was selected because she’s already a well-known name and people think she’s hot (oh and she’s HALF Chinese, whoopdy-doo). It’s just a damn shame that no one gives these things more thought or considers how the REAL fans feel.

K.K was selected for marketing purposes aimed at the wider, more ignorant audience – NOT because she is more worthy of the role than anyone else in the world. And I don’t trust the opinion of males either when it comes to this subject (as they may be thinking with something other than the brain in their skull when forming opinions about whether K.K is suitable for the part or not). Hollywood does this kind of thing all the time – choosing ‘hot,’ well-known celebrities over more appropriate ones to generate hype. A good example I can think of is when they cast Angelina Jolie as Grendel’s mother in Beowulf, when anyone who’s read the epic knows that she’s SUPPOSED to be a hideously ugly monster. So yeah, the casting crew morons pull cheap stunts like this to boost the movies sex-appeal with a well-known face. It’s just a tragedy that our precious Street Fighter had to succumb to the same lame manoeuvres when this should have been a proper representation and tribute to the greatest female Street Fighter to ever exist.

Oh and by the way, Kelly Hu would have made a WAAAAY better Chun Li than Kreuk. Just check out this website: http://femalemixedmartialartists.blogspot.com/2007/06/mma-fighter-kelly-hu.html

So WTF were those casting crew RETARDS thinking by choosing Kreuk?! Or should I say – NOT thinking

Sheena, they’re not making the movie to give you the satisfying pre-packaged frottage material you’re looking for. Of course they’re picking a well-known actress; they’re trying to make money, not make you your own real life Chun Li. If they manage that, it’s purely incidental.

Additionally, that chick from Smallville IS pretending to be Chun Li. She was also pretending in Smallville. And she was also pretending to be a tart in the other film you cited. That’s, um. The point. That’s acting. That’s kind of what she does. I also think using her slutty role as an excuse for why she shouldn’t play Chun Li is sexist and totally irrelevant. So good job on making a woman’s judge of character look better, there.

Aaaas for my opinion, Street Fighter, like most fighting games, is a cheesy, addictively playable franchise held together by a plot weaved out of wet paper. It’s there to get you from one fight to the next, and I’ll be astonished if the movie manages to take it anywhere different.

The only movie based off of a fighting game that I’d actually really want to see is one for Guilty Gear. When you’re talking about something as unlikely as a giant battling tournament used to aid your characters Deep Emotional Self-Discovery, you might as well make it completely bat anyway, and I always liked that about GG. Less perky girls with buns and Chinese frocks. More victims of pederasty bludgeoning people to death with ship anchors. That’s what I always say.

i think she cud pull off a chun li look, her face does not look completely chinese but does resemble chun li’s….

in most anime and japanese things the characters dnt rlly look that chinese anyway (the eyes for example) kreuk just needs bigger thighs thats all…

I’m disappointed. Ya kristen is hot. But hollywood is screwed up. First they cast Tom cruz to play a samurai, then they cast zhiyi zang, Michelle yeoh and Gong li(all chinese women) to play Japanese geishas. And now they’re casting a dutch/chinese/indonesian as chun li?? wow… what next?

Sheena

On September 24, 2008 at 9:01 pm

Yulin, I agree with you completely.

And as for you, Laboratory – you obviously don’t care about this matter very much or take the whole Street Fighter legacy too seriously. But for the die-hard fans who have been playing it for their whole lives and take it personally this is actually a big deal. Hence, Hollywood belittling the title by chosing a well-known, as opposed to well-suited actress to make a few quick bucks is just another example of how retarded Hollywood is and this is PROBABLY going to be a flop because anyone who’s a big fan of Street Fighter isn’t going to buy KK as Chun Li and they’re also gonna be like ‘Where’s Ryu and Ken?’. They’re setting themselves up for failure. It’s just like what Yulin said. Hollywood should pull its head in and focus more on the quality and casting of what they’re producing because the whole world is gradually getting tired of the steaming piles of crap the cinemas keep churning out. Basically by casting KK they’r trying to attract the more ignorant viewers as opposed to the fans. I already said this in my last post anyway.

Obviously I know Chun Li isn’t a real person and so anyone acting the part is only pretending. What I’m saying is KK isn’t even suitable to pretend if they actually want the movie to be believable. KK’s a pretty girl, and I’m sure she’s got a top personality when you get to know her. I wasn’t saying KK’s a slut IRL either BUT what I was getting at is that she doesn’t have the right vibe to play our Chun Li, Strongest Woman in the World, and I stand by that 100%, there.

They could have made a real success out of this movie but using cheap marketing tactics which is totally typical of Hollywood has really made a lot of people lose interest.

The debate rages on but I think you’ll find most informed fans aren’t impressed with the line up that’s been selected for this movie. Some of the other actor choices are even worse than KK.
