Snag Pay-What-You-Want PC Racer Proun — It’s Great
I’m not really one for racing games usually, but indie title Proun is something different. Everything about it I like — it’s 3-D wirey graphics and modern art style, its jazzy soundtrack and its high-speed gameplay. It’s a racing game that’s not like racing games, and that’s a winner for me.
What’s even cooler about Proun is its price tag, which you get to set. You can download the game free from its creator, Joost van Drougen, at his site, www.proun-game.com. You can grab the game there for free to give it a shot, and if you like it, you can pay something for it later, which also unlocks a bonus track for you.
Proun puts you in control of a ball that’s basically running along a cylindrical cable, where you’ll race against other balls. The trick is to keep moving forward and rotating around the cable to dodge obstacles. Hitting obstacles will stop you dead, but rotating also slows you down, so it takes skill to use just enough rotation to get where you need to be without going crazy.
Also on the site are a couple of user-made tracks that can be downloaded and added to the game. Proun is “highly moddable,” so you can make tracks of your own and share them with others if you’re so inclined. And you should be — more tracks would be delightful.
Check back here later in the week for a full review of Proun. In the meantime, give it a go yourself.
