Somebody Recreated Level 1-1 from Super Mario Land in LittleBigPlanet 2

Look, I’ve dicked around with the creation tools in LittleBigPlanet2 my fair share, but I’m still consistently surprised by what can me created with them. Case in point: this close-to-perfect build of the first level of the Game Boy’s launch Mario title, Super Mario Land. I must have played this level a hundred times when I was a wee child, since I sucked too much to make it past level world 4; I just played until I lost all my lives over and over and over and over and over again. Anyway, that means I’ve played that first level more times than any other level in any other video game, and so it’s ingrained in my memory even though it’s probably been fifteen years since I’ve touched that game.

And THAT means that I was more than a little disconcerted when I started up JUNKVXXL’s “Mario Land World 1-1 Gameboy graphics 1989″ in LittleBigPlanet 2 to find that it really is a pretty accurate representation of that level. It isn’t perfect, of course; it’s missing the growth shrooms, and you can’t go down the pipe at the beginning of the level, but it’s as close as one could come with LBP2′s tools. Don’t believe me? Video proof:

You can add the level to your queue here.
