Sony Celebrates PlayStation’s 15th Birthday with PSN Discounts

15 years ago the PlayStation launched here in North America. The original console brought CD and 3D into the mainstream of gaming and competed with some pretty awesome consoles from Sega and Nintendo but still managed to steal the market away. Even today gamers still play titles released on the original PSOne thanks to emulation and resold versions of titles like Final Fantasy VII thanks to PlayStation Network.

The house that PlayStation built is giving back to fans of the console with some offers both free and discounted available on the PlayStation Network:

  • Free PS3 and PSP downloadable static themes
  • Weekly discounts on select PSOne Classics, found on the 15th anniversary store page
  • 50% sale on Super Rub A Dub
  • A PlayStation console ornament for PlayStation Home

It’s been a long, glorious road to this landmark date and with people still playing PlayStation titles on modern consoles is it a surprise if we’re celebrating the 20th birthday of the system in a few years?
