Sony CEO Suggests PS4 Will Release After Next Xbox

Global chief executive of Sony Kaz Hirai has suggested that the PlayStation 4 will release after the next Xbox.

When asked about console release windows, Hirai told The Times:

“Why go first when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?”

A “senior source” suggested to CVG that Hirai’s views may not be shared by executives within the PlayStation business, saying that giving the next Xbox another long head-start would be “ridiculous” considering the ground Microsoft gained by launching the 360 a year before the PlayStation 3.

Most industry speculation suggests that the next generation Xbox and PS consoles won’t release more than a few months apart. Further, Sony and Microsoft executives likely already are aware of what technology their competitor is using, making Hirai’s reasoning even less comprehensible.

Meanwhile, the PS4 is rumored to be more powerful than the next Xbox.

Even if they weren’t aware of the competitors specs is he implying that they would make serious changes to the PS4 that late in the development cycle because of something the new Xbox might have?

I bet devs would love that.

“Oh by the way, those dev kits you have been using for months to make your games…. ya we kinda changed stuff.”

I don’t think they they’d necessarily change the core aspects (if they changed anything at all), just some of the part interations…kinda like changing from a GTX 530 to a GTX 560 Ti
