Sony CFO: Less PS3 Sales Meant Fewer Losses

sony.gifWho knew that by selling fewer PlayStation 3s it would turn out to be a good thing for Sony? Probably not Sony, but their CFO is liking it.

“Actually, because the number of units sold was not as high as we hoped, the loss was better than our original expectation,” Nobuyuki Oneda, Sony Corporate Financial Officer, said in a MyArcadePlanet post.

That almost makes sense to most people who read it. I think what he means is that Sony was planning for a huge loss all at once, but now they can expect to take that huge loss over a longer period of time.

You know, whatever the Sony executives want to tell themselves to help their sleep is completely within their rights. And come November they are definitely going to have some sleepless nights–the poster on the site makes a good point that the holiday season may very well make or break the PlayStation 3.

I think it’s going to make it.

    I think it’s going to make it…just.

As for the rest, well yeah, I understand it, doesn’t change the fact that what he said was completely stupid.

Sony will sugar coat it and try to save face. Of course they want good sales, not sit on shelves. that was a lame statment they posted. If the PS3 was as hot as the Wii, they would eventualy recoperate losses with software sales and more downloads from the Sony network etc….

Any idiot would know more system sales at a loss would mean more game sales. more prepherials. all at profit. More people into the whole swing if it. And dont start and argument on their sales or what the are or arent selling. I dont care. that was a lame statment by the Sony CFO.
