Sony Event Invite Confirms PSP 2 Announcement Tonight
Martyn Williams of PC World and MacWorld is in Tokyo, gearing up for Sony’s Playstation Meeting, which, for those of us stateside, will be occurring late tonight — around 11 p.m. Pacific time. According to Williams and the Japanese writing on his invite, apparently, the meeting will concern the PSP 2.
So yeah. That seems to be happening as rumored.
The invite also contains info about a few other features that may or may not be the PSP 2 — including the OLED screen and 3G connectivity we’ve heard about, plus a Google Android operating system. But that might be that Playstation phone, the Xperia Play, we keep hearing about, since it’s supposed to have Android and obviously 3G capability.
We’ve heard some things about the PSP 2 having phone functions before, but if it has Android, all bets are off for that machine — it could be huge, branching into the ability to play PSP 2 games and downloadable mobile games, as well as run other apps. If you’ve been hanging around here, you probably know how I feel about mobile gaming, and adding Android and 3G to the PSP 2 could turn it into an absolute portable gaming powerhouse.
I’ll be here at 11 tonight (and that’s 2 a.m. for you east coasters; you people in the middle should know your time zone math by now) watching the event and posting all the news fit for the Internet right here on Game Front.
Thanks for the image and info, Playstation Informer.
