Sony FCC Filing Hints At New, Slimmer PS3

Japanese site PocketNews is all over the Sony beat, with IGN hot on their heels. According to a leaked document filed with the FCC, Sony is planning to release a PS3 with the model designation CECH-4001x. Since the consoles currently on store shelves belong to the 3000 series, it’s likely that the 4000 line will sport some design changes.

Past experience and the cryptic technical drawings included in the document point to a smaller, slimmer PS3. Eurogamer expects the big announcement at Gamescom, which opens August 15th. Microsoft have already deployed XBOX 360 price drops this summer, so Sony will likely be looking to get in on the fun when they arrive in Cologne.
