Sony Revamps PlayStation Plus Starting in June
Sony is revamping PlayStation Plus to offer two new free games every month for each of its currently supported consoles: PS4, PS3, and PS Vita.
PlayStation Plus has been a pretty good service for its members so far. Not only has it offered up free games, but Sony had made sure those games are fairly attractive options. In the past year, you could have grabbed XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Batman: Arkham City, Tomb Raider, and Borderlands 2, just to name a few. The full list of free titles includes almost 140 titles (see the list here), to say nothing of the other freebies and discounts the service provides. Now Sony is going to make the free game schedule a bit easier to understand.
First off, the June changes will see two new games added for each of Sony’s supported consoles. PS4 owners will get Trine 2: Complete Story and Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate, which is a cross-buy title. For PS3 players, the two titles will be NBA 2K14 and Sly Cooper: Thieves of Time, which is also cross-buy title, so you can play it on your Vita as well. Vita owners will also get Terraria and Mutant Mudds Deluxe in addition to the cross-buy titles above.
Come July, the next change will roll out – a predictable schedule for PS Plus titles. On the first Tuesday in July, all of June’s titles will go away, and July’s games will go live. This will be the PS Plus schedule moving forward, with each set of titles being available for about a month.
As in the past, you can still claim the games without downloading them, so they’ll always be on your account. That’s handy if you haven’t made the move to PS4 yet, but still want to have the free PS4 titles at your disposal if you do. That said, the games that are currently on the service will begin to be phased out “in the coming weeks,” so if you want to grab any of them, now’s the time.
