Sony Santa Monica Hiring For Unannounced Game
Do you live in California, or happen to want to, and also have expertise in game development? Do you mind working for a company that may or may not be working on their next console? Of course not! So make a note: Sony Santa Monica is hiring a Senior Combat Designer for an unspecified new game the studio is developing.
What’s the game? A few hints are provided. The listed responsibilities include “Assist, collaborate with and take direction from Lead Combat Designer and Game Director as needed on any the following: character and boss designs from concept to implementation completion, including character animation implementation and tuning, environmental character impact, special effects, sound effects, AI gameplay scenario layout and gameplay tuning, controller configuration, gameplay features, magic distribution, character balance and ramping.” So when I said ‘hints’, I meant ‘things from every game ever made’. I kid, I kid. There are actual hints, I swear.
Applicants are told that “Experience working with, developing or designing for a 1st and/or 3rd person shooter genre a plus.”, and “Experience working with, developing or designing vehicle combat in a game also a plus.” This suggests little other than a game that may very well end up being close to the Uncharted series. So we’re going to wildly speculate that they are, in fact, hiring for work on the next proper Uncharted game. Of course, we also know that Uncharted is made by Naughty Dog, a Sony subsidiary, so probably not.
Feel free to speculate in comments. Unless you meet these qualifications, in which case there’s a recession on and you should be applying.
