Sony: Third Parties will Favor PS3 Over 360 by 2009

Some games — like Burnout Paradise — have already been developed with the PlayStation 3 as the lead platform, but the new head of Sony Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, believes that development will continue to move in favor of the PS3, particularly beginning in 2009.

“Moving forward I’m totally confident that developers will start to use more from the PlayStation 3 platform. This year is the year of parity, next year is the year of differentiation in favor of the PS3 platform,” Yoshida told GamesIndustry.biz.

Blu-ray will also play a role in that, thanks to the additional space it offers multiplatform games that a single DVD cannot. He said, “But I think after the end of last year, there are more and more titles are coming out on the same day [as Xbox 360] and the same quality, and we can start to see some additional things on PS3 because of the space available on Blu-ray.”

Of course, that’s speculation on his part — or at least, something we haven’t heard much of. Stranglehold was one of the few examples of this happening, where the collector’s edition of the game contained the movie Hard Boiled on the Blu-ray disc.
Generally speaking, I think the Xbox 360 version of multiplatform games is the preferred one, assuming you don’t mind paying for a subscription to Xbox Live. Between Live and achievements, the PS3 versions of most multiplatform games haven’t had much of an edge. But if we see more bonuses like we did with Stranglehold, I could absolutely see the PS3 version of games becomes the de facto version.

You know, Sony makes a lot of promises that they don’t make good on, why should this promise be any different. I’ll believe it when I see it Sony…..impress me I dare you.

I’ve said this before but Sony focused all it’s efforts on Blu-Ray and won the format war but at the cost of losing the console war.

So… this is probably true. Only becuse the 360 will be obsolete by then and there will be a new console. Poor poor sony. Always trying to be the bad ass. Consoles are done anyway. Down with consoles, yay for the PC!!!!!

Right now, gamers who play between the 360 and PS3 will more likely choose a 360 version of a game simply because of achievements. We all know gamerscores mean nothing, but when I see the list of achievements, I tend to want to play the game longer than I would on the PS3.

Nowadays, gamers don’t just want a great game, we also want something that is going to reward us for going the extra mile in games. We want the game to recognize our effort in either bonus material, or simply letting our friends know we were able to get 5 headshots in a row.

I believe when the trophy system is implemented with the PS3, I think that’s when the playing fields will be a little more even between the PS3 & 360. I personally would much rather have a room full of trophies my friends can check out when home launches than some gamerscore that doesn’t show how great of a gamer I am, but instead how much time I have on my hands.

It’s a PR statement from Sony. That’s all there needs to be said.

Does it really matter? I mean ffs, the PS3 has some killer exclusives, its own solid fanchises and unless the developers are shit or lazy, the 3rd party games look EXACTLY THE SAME!

I do believe the PS3 being lead platform would, in the end, will give better results. The PS3 is arguably more powerful, and has much more potential, its harnessing that potential, because atm no 3rd party developers bother because its different to the 360 which they’d been used to!

Actually ManofTeal, answer Norbit’s question, where does it say “promise” and for that matter all you ever talk about is “broken promises from Sony” I’d like you to point to someone from Sony(Exec or PR) that says the two words: “I promise” come on………?????

    Fact is this
    1. If anyone believes anything that comes out of the mouth of any PR or Exec from any company, you have no brain… or the IQ of a toothpick
    2. If somehow you equate a simple PR statement into a “promise” then you are
a: looking to be let down
    b: stupid
    c: a fanboy of a competing company
d: need to be locked in a room with all of the world’s history to read and not let out until you’re finished.
