Sony’s NGP to be Called “Vita” (RUMOR)

We’ve known for a while that NGP was just a codename for Sony’s new handheld. Pretty much everyone expected the actual name of the technology-laden pocket system to be PSP 2, but if a Ripten source is to be believed, it will actually be called something quite different: PlayStation Vita.

Obviously, with a source like this, there is often no way to confirm or disprove the statements. What is suggestive is that the domain is registered by domain company ASCIO TECHNOLOGIES, INC. In the past, ASCIO has registered a number of domains for new Sony projects, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility that this rumor could turn out to be true.

Of course, it could also turn out to be yet another code name for the new handheld. We can expect to find out for sure next week at Sony’s E3 press event, which takes place at 5PM PST on June 6. We’ll be on site to bring you all the news about the name of the handheld, and what it’s like to play it.
