Sora’s Keyblade Remade in Real Life
Our buddies at Break Media have put together a new video on their AWE Me channel to showcase how they built a weapon from Kingdom Hearts.
The new video is a part of their on-going “Man at Arms” series, which follows a blacksmith-to-the-stars Tony Swatton as he forges real life versions of weapons from popular movies, TV shows and video games. The series previously showcased how Swatton made a sword based on Game of Thrones, for real. For that episode, which you can see here, he expertly crafted the weapon wielded by Jaime Lannister.
Swatton forges these weapons using high-speed belt grinders, furnaces, and pounds the metal together with hammers with methods used by real weaponsmiths from the Middle Ages. To prove that they’re actually serviceable as weapons, Swatton uses them to wreck stuff.
As previously mentioned, Swatton built a Keyblade for this latest episode. Keyblades are swords that takes the form of giant keys, and they feature prominently in Disney and Square Enix’s popular Kingdom Hearts series of games. To that end, Swatton forged the Keyblade: The Kingdom Key, the weapon wielded by the game’s protagonist, Sora.

If you leave your comments on the video, you can suggest to the folks at Man at Arms what weapon you’d like to see Swatton craft next. Personally, I’d like to see him forge Frostmourne from the Warcraft series of games—replete with the glowing runes that make it look as terrifying as it is whenever Arthas wields it. At any rate, anything Swatton makes looks way cooler than any other replicas I’ve seen so I’d still be happy even if he decided to make an oversized Buster Sword ahead of anything else.
